I just found this thread. Looking at the picks IMO it looks like about 20m2 of brickwork is vastly different to the rest of the house. 20m2 at 50 brick per m2 is 1000 bricks. As the front upstairs is usually the last part that is laid I'd ask to see the original callup information on the total quant...

Glazed bricks are nice and have been around since the 1920's, with the salt glazed terracotta bricks used in the Art Deco/P&O style homes as feature banding to rope bricks or soldier courses around pressed reds. Austral bought the old Euroa Bricks business and now sell them as Burlesque but you ...

Re colour wise it's each to their own but they are very nice bricks that are a fairly expensive upgrade. I would recommend that you talk to your builder about making sure that the bricklayer does an AS3700 mortar mix. Visit the Thinkbrick website and download the PDF for The Brick Manual and the Ind...

Update: Builder had been good and got the brick rep out. He said that it's nothing to do with the brick. most likely the fault of the bricklayer causing the clean harder to remove excess mortar. Builder is looking at getting a company called Nawkaw to paint the problem bricks? Anyone heard of them ...
Painting doesn't solve your problem ? In fact painting the bricks and mortar makes things worse..long term The mortar j...

Looking at your picture you have the deadly combination of the following... 1, Brickwork laid in a dirty state [They needed pressure washing] 2, A colour veneer brick [where pressure washing easily strips the colour from the clay brick face] 3, An off-white mortar [Which is highly visible in a dark ...

All manufacturers state that bricks change batch to batch and even pallet to pallet let alone comparing a house that is finished to a delivery you expect to recieve in the future. This is a common mistake of home owners. The clay colours vary in the ground scoop to scoop so brick variation is prone ...

I'm glad you have had the issue solved but I don't understand what they did to do it. A cash payment obviously helped you accept some of the issue. As you said you were reimbursed, has the builder been credited the bricks cheap or free and passed the saving on to you? You said the difference is colo...

IMO it looks like the lintel isn't quite deep enough to take the brickwork and the back of the bricks are sitting on the welded seam

I think in these images we are looking at efflorescence, salt leaching out of the brick after being washed or rain. This will happen for while particularly with this brick, this just need washed again ...and maybe again. No it's not efflorescence and it'll only make it worse if they are washed with...

I have a few comments regarding the above..... Iron oxide stain = Acid burn. Clay bricks don't cure as they are fired to become like stone, but concrete bricks require a curing time just like any concrete product. Clay bricks do swell over the years and this increasing size is taken up with expansio...

A brickie can do it using an Arbortech AS170 saw with the appropriate bed and perp end blade. Do not let anyone try to cut them out with an angle grinder.

I have no idea about bricks, but can you stain some of them to match the darker colour? In the OP he's had Nawkaw out to try but it apparantly didn't work.

I'd say $20 per brick would be more realistic and it'd still be cheaper than pulling it all down, taking away the bricks and re supplying, laying and cleaning them again

If the bricks meet the AS3700 for dimensional size, compressive strength and match the display walls in colour and texture. Each manufacturer should provide bricks that meet these requirements, if not they should be downgraded to seconds. These vary batch to batch. Tell the builder you're paying for...

IMO the pictures in your blog show a classic failure by the bricklayer, to protect the brickwork from the elements while the mortar is drying. The high contrast between the brick [it looks like Boral Storm] and the mortar, with the rain hitting the bricks, will almost certainly result in "white...
