Seriously...I think $10K is fine. There is a top-end audio-visual store in Sydney's northern suburbs that has been awarded for its work on jobs over $300K!! Have a look at this link and see what some people are spending: http://www.gadgetguy.com.au/electronic-interiors-article-8809-1.html (The compa...

I would be more concerned about matching or co-ordinating the colour of the downpipes to your wall colour. Are you using face brick or render/bagged finish? We have a Windspray roof/gutter/fascia but as our bricks are a dark blue colour we chose Ironstone downpipes so they blend into the colour of t...

How about calling an inspection company such as Tyrells to advise. They have building consultants who should be able to determine the cause and solution. Pix

Hi, I think you'll find that when you sit down with someone to go through your material selections, you'll have the chance to let them know exactly what layout you want and if you want more drawers, cupboards, types of drawers and cupboards, handle and door choices etc. This forum is a wonderful sou...

This is *such* and interesting topic because for me it's all about where to draw the line. For example, a friend of mine just purchased a home which was "styled"..that is, designer furniture + artwork + home accessories + luxury bedlinen etc. The whole point of this, imho, is to "wow&...

Like you we have chosen a SDN carpet (also from Carpet Court). We had 100% wool in our previous home and would *never* have it again. The carpet we selected then was very good quality with a good quality underlay however, it did not wear well with two small children and a cat. I am very particular a...

Hi All!! We just received our quarterly power bill for our hot little rental and I nearly fell over when I saw it was more than $300. There are four of us (2xadults & 2x7 year olds) in a cramped little villa with no air-con, no fans, no dishwasher etc. You get the picture right? On yet another 3...

Just wondering if anyone might know about the nitty-gritty installation details for a Colorbond roof. The brickies have just finished and our SS says the roof will go on next week. He's mentioned the guttering and fascia will get installed before the roof itself and this seems counter-intuitive to m...

Hi all :-) Just wanting some brief feedback on the different definitions of 'lockup' in your building contracts please as I'd be really interested in finding out whether there is an accepted definition of lockup. After doing a search of the Forum I note some contracts state something along the lines...

Hi, I often tell students there are no silly questions -- just silly answers.. but having said that, this feels like a really silly question!!! Do I need a plumber to install a dishwasher? DH is terribly handy (no pun intended -- lol) so he could do it, but I was just wondering whether you actually ...

Hi all...I'm hoping someone who's experienced this or one of the flooring experts can assist please. We are having 600x600 matt porcelain tiles laid on our ground floor (slab) except for a formal living area on the RHS where we will lay carpet. I can't get my head around how to deal with the differi...

Hi all, I hope this is not one of those questions along the lines of "how long is a piece of string?"...but... What would you consider to be a reasonable time for a project home builder to produce house plans, including front and rear elevations etc? Thanks...Pix.

I am simply amazed at the speed at which a house not too far from me is being built. I have no connection whatsoever to the builder, W1sdom, but how is this for setting a cracking pace: 1. Slab poured about 2 weeks ago (last week of May 09) 2. Frame delivered on site last Friday (12 June 09) 3. Grou...

Hi all, Just wondering if any of you have found that the standard door installed by your builder for your laundry (leading to outside) is a hollow core door? Hubby and I thought this was a security issue, since a deadlock on a hollow core door isn't very effective and laundries are usually located a...

Hey All, Just wanted to say that we had our handover today :-) It's certainly been an interesting journey of ups and downs and one which will continue as we have so much to do now ourselves. We can't do as much as we would like, however, because of all the rain in Sydney lately. The gradient on our ...

Hi all, As some of you may know, DH and I are building a (modified) Allcastle Maxworth 38.7 in Ryde, Sydney. After a few dramas, we finally got the go ahead and building has just begun. Hi all, We want some opinions please!!! :D We are in Sydney and going with a project builder. While DH and I are pretty savvy, we are NOT builders.
