Good advice, we will be hiring an independent inspector for our build. Haven't selected one yet though as we are still yet to sign our build contracts (hopefully this week) and get finance approved. I figure it's a small insurance investment compared to the overall sum of the house.

We are just waiting on finance and then we will begin looking for an inspector for our build. Plan on getting them to do four inspections - slab, plate height, roof and PCI So far only had one quote but it seems like a worthwhile investment to me.

As I mentioned above I'll just be doing four inspections - slab, plate height, roof and PCI. Quite a few inspectors seem to offer packages and I can get those four inspections done for around $1500 - $2000 which is a big out of pocket expense when budgeting during a build and still paying rent but c...

Definitely have a sit down with a broker. Helps to lay out the costs and make it all much more manageable. Also if you are looking to build as opposed to buying established the WA government just increased their first home owners grant to $15,000 (we just missed out by a month as we had signed contr...

We are having undermount in the kitchen in our new build and top mount in the scullery. Considering on changing the sink in the kitchen to a round single bowl at pre-start though as we don't think we need a double in the kitchen if we do the main washing up in the scullery.

Hi, Was just wondering if people had any feedback on fibreglass doors. Builder wants us to sign off on a variation to change our external access door on the garage from a Solidor wooden door to a fibreglass door. It makes sense to me on paper as the door will exposed to the elements and the fibregla...

Hey, Thought I'd introduce myself after plenty of lurking the past couple of months. My partner and I are looking to build our first home together in the Wellard area. Have spoken with a broker and should be fine borrowing the amount we are budgeting for, now just moving ahead with getting pre-appro...

Cheers Andrew. Part of the reason we have narrowed the list to those 3 builders at the moment is that they seemed pretty flexible when it came to design and the consultants all had good advice. So it's more the fact that we narrowed it down to three consultants we feel like we can work with. Red ink...

Hey Bob, did you make any decisions yet? I went with Celebrations as they seemed a good mid-range builder plus the land in Brightwood Baldivis (Abn Group, Celebrations are part of them) was far cheaper than other estates in the area. So far they've honestly been great and have accommodated many cha...

Still waiting on one quote but at the moment it looks like Celebration might be the winner. Of all the designs we've had drawn up they probably utilised the space the best. I'm still keen on the Impressions design as well but keep hearing bad things about BGC so it's putting us off slightly. The goo...
