We were in the same situation and decided to go with getting rid of the existing home and rebuilding with a volume builder. We were lucky enough to sell our existing house (which is a brick veneer, around 20 years old) for the same amount of money it would have cost to demolish, giving us some extr...

http://www.gah.com.au/ We paid $7500 and they get to make extra by reselling off what they salvage. I suppose if you wanted to (and had tome to) pull out your floorboards et cetera and knew where to sell them you could end up quite better off. As I understand that hardwood floor must be sit on the batten or plasterboard, floating floors can sit on one layer of the underlay. One of my friends just got a quote of 1 trip KEMPAS pre-finished timber floating for $95pm laid. But someone tell me the KEMPAS pre-finished hardwood floor only for $7...

Kempas is the species of wood, but i am not sure who the manufacturer is that Harvey Norman use and if it is Australian wood or an imported species? I think they originally grow and manufacture in Malaysia, but recently manufacture in China with better QC.

The main reason to raise them is to allow adequate space for the dishwasher. Otherwise you would have to install the dishwasher, then install the floor, but then you'd never be able to get your dishwasher out. You may choose the 810mm instead of 850mm high dishwasher.

We are going to put Boral silkwood blackbutt 1 strip on our whole new house soon, so I can't tell much real experience now. But I do some research before we make that decision. One important thing we learnt about the 'hardness' of the boards has to do with the age of the timber used and the drying process, and lenght of ti...
