Hi, We have recently built in an established suburb, unfortunately, we've run into a bit of a messy issue and was wondering how to approach a solution: We have built a zero line garage wall against one of our neighbours which on hindsight is a stupid idea and should have left a 100mm or so gap with ...

so do you know if he has cleared the weep holes properly or bridged the termite barrier? These issues should be dealt with firstly before the point of whether it looks good or not I don't think he has bridged the termine barrier and he tells me he recalls there was no weep holes which I found it ha...

Hi All, Aikes! New day, new house, new problem! We've recently moved in and now we're experiencing a new issue, the last 1.5 weeks, I have noticed a rather loud, audible THUD/knocking noise against the drainage pipe in the plumbing stack when using the upstairs ensuite which is right above my kitche...

Curious, why not? I've always thought the weight, moisture etc. would have been potential issues?

Thanks. Could you clarify this bit as well? "If your site was cut and the tank was on the boundary, then you would have some cause for concern due to the tank's zone of influence." When we rebuild, the land was cut and filled. Do you mean this or do you mean if my land was lower than his??

Hi All, Just wondering if rendering over render would create damage to my wall? To cut a long story short....my busy body neighbour rendered over out zero lotted garage wall....he did a very bad job without asking our permission first! and now it looks worse than before (without the render - natural...

I went to a few Display Homes today and was pretty shocked to find that medium-large homes have such small bedrooms! I guess like someone said earlier in this thread, some of the space goes into the Main Bedroom which is overly big! Anyways I was wanting to compare my bedrooms and this thread was v...

This is something we'll have to adjust to as well. Master is over 4x4 but our minor beds are 3x3.6m and one at 3x3.2m. In our last house (a semi) the smallest bedroom was still 3.2x3.8m and the other two 3.8x4.2m. The trade off though is that we now get more and larger living spaces. Personally I t...

When the talk is that most people will move home every 7 to 10 or so years, the idea of large bedrooms seems almost redundant. In these connected days, you really only want your children to sleep and change clothes in their bedroom, and not have them as places to hide or hang out on their computers...
Two schools of thought on that one but as kids grow older, they need some sort of space in their rooms? One camp is jus...

I'm in Vic and the council states that it needs to be 500mm cleared of any neighboring boundary..That is not even 50mm let alone 500mm. I've spoken to him but he's saying he won't move it because plumbing has been done. The base was a DIY job (he's a bit of a DIY cowboy). Moving it 500mm towards his...

Funnily enough he is saying it is the "best installation" of a water tank I'll ever see. Thing is, I see the following issues: 1. I don't think the plumbing was done by a certified plumber, honestly it's everywhere. The bottom picture depicts how it's setup. I'm really concerned how that c...

Aggression = he knows he's wrong. I'd stay away from him now - and seek Council help. BUT - understand - you may lose a neighbour for good ! Maybe ring council first and seek their advice - people love helping and will always feel sorry for you if you explain it all and that you need help ... :) Ye...

Wow, judder that's nuts! Surely commonsense by the council will prevail and they'll get your neighbour to move the tank. And then you can build the tallest fence legally permitted between you and that neighbour. Keep the crazy on their side of the fence! Good luck. Councils aren't as powerful as mo...

You will find paying both will not be that much - and may save great angst etc. It will also be a good talking point for years to come - how "your" fence was paid for. :) But - in saying that - I totally disagree with a neighbour not paying their share. I feel you should send a formal let...

I spoke to the council, they seem weak, the fella who picked up the call as umming and ahhing and it was like "oh the 500mm clearance of boundaries is not set in stone etc"...wtf? If you take up an issue with anyone, you have to know your facts, you cannot assume that someone on the other...

The set back requirement is enforced on all new homes and they would constitute the vast majority of cases. Many other councils also stipulate those regulations on their websites. I would have made him aware of those indisputable facts to rebuff his learned 'opinion' and asked him why the council i...

Hmm thanks for the responses, but I'm not sure of what to do now. I'm kind of confused, the responses seem mixed saying some of my concerns are unfounded? I don't want to make it an overall huge issue but then I don't want to fork out for massive repairs down the track if something does go wrong? Fl...

Update: I am very confused about a council's response with regards to a official council sheet on "rain water tank guidelines". I was repeatedly told that since 'A rainwater tank is not classifiable in accordance with the building code of Australia', therefore the rule that a 500mm gap fro...

Hi, Looking for the best options. I don't want to get entangled legally speaking as in the long run it would probably be very expensive. So our neighbour has extended his bathroom against our boundary (zero lot extension). I had to agreed in writing and on plans they were never meant to encroach our...
