I have used aluminium mesh to make a construction joint in a retaining wall but that was for a specific purpose. What I don't get is there is less than one cube of concrete to fill your wall. Why go to the cost and difficulty to selectively fill your wall (to save $100 of concrete but spend more tha...

All rebar must be concrete encased. Don't leave open cores. Concrete is cheap, about $200 for 20Mpa and add about $25 for 32Mpa (not three times). Concrete is alkaline so when in contact with the steel rebar stops the corrosion reaction. (Much of our municipal water pipes are mild steel cement lined...

Have you looked at your certificate of title? Is there a drainage easement to the rear somewhere? When we built 10 years ago in a country town there was a stormwater connection point at the rear as the property was on the low side of the road. You seem to have a lot of water and it must be ducted of...

Councils do what is known as an aquifer storage and recovery. Basically stormwater is cleaned in a reed bed then pumped underground at high pressure. In summer they pump it back for watering parklands and the like. You won't get a license to do that. Bores need approval.

So sorry to hear about all these problems. It's he last thing you want in retirement. You are required to "landscape" water away from the house, so don't fear being held liable for slab heave if you comply with this requirement; your problem is though it will accumulate away from the house...

It seems like a legal disclaimer over what is called "third party reliance". Basically the soil report is not their work but they have had to base their designs on it; it's their way of stating they are not legally responsible if you supplied them with incorrect information. It also limits...

I did my own floor a few years ago. It is difficult and hard work. You will need an edge sander and the drum sander. I hired from Bunnings also. The result looked pretty good and a much improvement over what was there. I've got pretty good hand skills but a professional would have done a better job....

Easy. No saw cut will be square enough to assemble square over 10'. Your form needs to be levelled and staked into position before concrete is placed. Stake one side, push the frame until the diagonals are the same and put the other stakes into the ground.

Did you take lots of photos by any chance? The engineer really just needs to know that the right reinforcement was placed before the pour.

For us we extended our mortgage to cover land purchase and are in the process of selling our current home to fund the building on our land. If you bought $200k land the total security would be $700k. At 80% lending ratio that is a loan of $560k. So with the current $360k plus $200k = $560k that work...

Hi Quocxn, use 4 off 12mm rear per block and get them galvanized; that won't cost much otherwise they will rust. Make the blocks 300x300, put the rebar in each corner so there is 50mm concrete cover to each side. Cut them so they go the full height of each block minus 50mm. Roughen the surface of th...

Mgilla is right with the timber or steel posts, flat bases (or stirrups) packed up with gal washers. Fill the gap underneath with non-shrink grout available from Bunnings and they will last a lifetime. Unless your concrete slab is at 45 degree angle this will be structurally sound.

The same happened to me. The meter tap needs replacing. Report it to the water authority as your mains can't ne shut off and they will fix it at no cost to you. Before mine was fixed I would open a tap closer to the meter (front garden tap) to slow the flow while I replaced the washer in the bathroo...

The outside lever will have to be removed to disassemble the rest. There should be two screws on the other side that are holding the bezel in the photo on. If you don't think you can fix it a new replacement from Bunnings etc will be about $40 to $50 and will reassemble the same way you pulled this ...

Perhaps pull off the sensor and take it to an electronics store (Jaycar for example). It's probably a standard thermocouple (pt1000 or similar) that you could wire back to the controller. If someone can identify it there is no need for an OEM part.

I would always go dripper and sub surface irrigation. Much more efficient because you don't lose so much water to the wind and encourage the roots to go deep for healthy plants.

$8500 would get you a 5kW (or more) solar system which would meet most of your energy needs with no ongoing cost. Provided you can find enough roof space. The same price to get gas to the house and then pay for usage and service charge doesn't make sense to me. Go solar is my vote.

It's not so much temperature but moisture levels inside your house. Unfortunately when very cold outside the window glass will be below the dew point (temperature below which condensation forms for a given moisture content in the inside air). This also happens in the tropics at warmer temperatures w...

Hi aquanow. Hard to say without a picture. 30mm thick there would not be any reo in the concrete. I assume its an outdoor pathway. It's more about the base prep and I doubt there is much for a thin concrete topping. Is it cracked? Also is the frame made to distribute the load evenly or are there 4 l...
