Hi Dream House 82 I've essentially got a very similar set up to what you've outlined. Without advocating one system or another (at the end of the day, you can achieve things a number of ways - it comes down to what you decide is the best option for you - all things considered), I'm using the followi...

""Again, depending what type of system you use, everything should be able to be controlled from each point and, with the allowance for a coax cable to each room, you can always use IR extenders if needed.."" So what IR extender do you plan on using that runs with a COAX cable? L...

Hi amgsl55 Just my two cents worth, without advocating for any specific system, I'd suggest: - a minimum of 2xCat6 to every display point (i.e. wherever you'll have a TV or projector mounted) - a minimum 1xCat6 to wherever you want to have a control panel in each room (of course, depending on what t...

Hi NcgQ I've been slowly putting together my home theatre setup so, for what it's worth (and depending on your budget/main use), I've gone for: Legend Acoustics speakers (5.1 setup to begin with) Pioneer SC LX83 AV receiver OzTheatre 'Majestic' Evo3D fixed screen (16:9) Having done a fair bit of res...

Thanks Adam, I hadn't heard of the Nuvo System before and just had a look at it now and it seems pretty good! I did want to invest a little more in the speakers downstairs because of the sound quality in the areas where there's tiled floors. And less impressive speakers upstairs, to keep the budget...

Hmmm, ok, so you have all data points terminating to a patch panel in a cabinet and that is where you are running the matrix? So are all your sources at that location as well then? And everything is controlled via the IR system? No patch panel - originally had it set up like that but was an absolut...

ACT Good to see you have got it all set up and working. Im still doing alot of head scratching. If possible could you provide a list of what brand and type of components you used. Mainly the matrix and IR repeaters. Cheers Jason Hey Jason Yeh, despite having it all setup the way I want, I still scr...

Thanks for the detail on your setup Adam. A question though - how will your Cat6 for AV distro be separated from the home network? Are you having dedicated runs of Cat6 between the HT and target rooms just for AV? Hey Westy No problem - and yep, 2 runs of Cat6 from my 'equipment room' to each displ...

one other way would to go a HFS router with a 4 tuner card into recording al the FTA stuff then just accessing it via the server. the only thing that wouldn't be able to be done liek that is the Foxtel. then of ocourse all the new IP TV stuff will relegate the use of foxtel to the Dark ages.. Ok, thanks for the confirmation Adam. Glad to know I'm on the right track. So onto the next question...  How are you planning to 'route' the signals? Can the signals be switched like any other network traffic once they come out of the extenders (baluns) on CAT6? Is that what the ...
nope it won't work like that, it isn't converted in to IP traffic... so you can't use a Switch in that capacity. Source...

Ah, handy to have someone you know in the business. If he's a distributor, I take it they can be bought in Australia? A question - if you are running a HT room, how are you planning to hook in the devices to the matrix switch as well as the local amp/AVR? I run all my devices into an AVR with one o...

Just a quick update - wasn't able to get my hands on the Aten 4x4 hdmi matrix (no stock, no firm leadtime to order), so instead I've ordered the Octava Inc 4x4 hdmi matrix http://www.octavainc.com/HDMI%20matrix%20switch%204x4.html which will hopefully be here sometime next week! :D p.s. In my opinion and experience (I've installed many home cinemas and sat in even more), at 5m back, for me, 120" is a very good size and 133" would be the biggest I would want to go. I've been in a 4.8m long room with a 120" screen and it actually felt like it was bordering on too big....

Unfortunately that won't work in practice. The improvement you get from a more expensive projector won't make up for the improvement in quality from a good screen. For instance, you could paint an area on the wall white: cost = tin of paint. But any PJ you buy will be completely wasted. A bad scree...
