Further to my earlier post regarding Paneco in Qld, I like the Paneco system however I feel they have a lot to learn on the panelisation of a building as there is too much timber framing involved - in short, they need more work. Advice for what it is worth, there is a job Paneco are doing in Melbour...

That 10% premium is pretty standard additional cost if using the WA manufactured panels as they are very expensive. This whole SIPS sector of the building industry is undergoing rapid change and there are now very reliable suppliers from the US who we are able to import with and more cost effective ...

When in doubt, always ask for confirmation from a structural engineer. Yes, you may need to pay a few hundred dollars for it but you can sleep at night.

In theory everyone can panelise the house into a kit at least that is what everyones marketing suggests. Reality however, from what I have seen, is a far different exercise and while success is easy on very simple single storey projects I know of plenty where it has been a disaster. Before spending ...

The Qld supplier was for a metal clad system very similar to Bondor INsulliving that is made in Melb. The qld system is excellent however they are now only geared up for major projects and production line stuff - single homes is now something they do not do any more. For metal clad panels I would re...

Quick comment that whoever and whatever system is used (they all have their advantages and disadvantages) that the supplier is able to properly 'panelise' your whole home so that it takes account for all the engineering, structural and services so that you end up with a genuine structural kit that w...

Yes, I think you are now correct in that they have developed their engineering now to the point where they can build 2 storey. This has occured over the last few months as I understand. 3 storey not yet, there is a whole new world of engineering required for that. Hope that helps. Russell 0414 398 586

Yes, you are right - a flashy website and their technical data is either not there or very well hidden! In any event, the panels are 140mm thick external, 90mm internal. The foam is EPS and the R values I have no idea but would be very similar to comparable panels of the same thickness. The panels (...

Good question and in reality every panel system must be approved by the Building Code of Australia (BCA) and the testing required is quite rigorous. It is important to differentiate between the ability to get a building permit with BCA accreditation as opposed to what the insurers will actually acce...

This issue goes back to a major cool room fire where it smouldered until the entire building was destroyed as it could not be put out. For a SIPS home you would only nominate the structural frame as Timber (or steel - depending on the panel) as you are not required to nominate the insulation. Best t...

The product is really an integrated system that has been put together by a builder/developer colleague of mine in Qld. You are right, there are a few systems available with various face panels eg: MgO, Steel, OSB however to my knowledge they are all EPS and this appears to be a standard not just here but in the US and Europe as well. The EPS is approved due to being non-toxic and from what I am safe for people with ...

The plywood SIPS are OK for multi-storey so long as you have the engineering to back it up. At this stage the insulliving panel is not really suitable but this may change as they develop the panels to include more structural components instead of just insulation. Also, the bondor system does not see...

The Bondor panel can be direct acrylic rendered to the outside and as there is nothing to actually rot and grow mould the vapour barrier is a bit superfluous. If you were cladding it with timber then I would still put a barrier in behind it but the cheapest option for the bondor is to just render it...

Yes, the plywood sips do have a vapour barrier and you are rightly worried about condensation and long term mould. The vapour barrier is a vital component and should be supplied with the panels.

The definition is simply what you say and that is that the panel is structural. Some panel systems are more 'structural' than others. For example, the Bondor Insuliving panel is only suitable for single storey construction with limited roof spans whereas some of the better OSB and MgO boards can be ...

The quickest way to clarify is to contact your building surveyor - the person who has issued your building permit. It is irrelevant if this is your 'builders' nominated Building Surveyor because by law, the Building Surveyor acts for you and NOT the builder. The Building Surveyor will answer you but...
