Hi, I'll be starting on my verandah repair soon - replace ledger, rafters, roofing iron, flashing etc. (fascia board already done). My question is about the timber ledger to be fitted against the front of the house that is brick. Do I need type of damp course or waterproofing between the brick and t...

They are just back panels the same as you have side panels. Is this a flat pack? You are just over sheet size to do it in one sheet unless it happens to be available in oversized sheets. Normally we build kitchens with multiple pieces on the back because it's more economical, simpler to transport a...
It's an Ikea kitchen with a few variations, so yes, flatpack (limited budget). The panels I have were left overs from s...

You will never hide the joints so as you have pointed out you will need to make them look more like the door gaps. To do this you need to have them edged with ABS edging. I'm guessing that this is a flatpack hence the reason you haven't got a cabinet maker providing you with finished panels that fi...
Yes, door gap kind of look is what I had in mind almost to match the door gaps of the top cabinets behind. I've tried s...

How to hide joins on rear panels of kitchen island?

Hi, I'm looking for some advice on how to fit the 3 rear panels to my kitchen island so that the joins will be either hidden or tidied so they are a kind of feature (see example photo). The inside edges have been cut so they'll need to be covered up maybe with some iron-on edging? although I'm reluc...

Hi, I've posted this in another forum but through I'd check here as well,, I'm nearing the end of my kitchen renovation and am looking for advice on preparing the substrate for the stonemason to fit the final top. It's a galley style layout, the cabinets are Ikea, (please hold judgement, I've had no...

Hi, I'm installing a new cooktop above the oven and had a question about flexible gas hoses. Is it ok to have a flexible hoses on either side of the regulator- one connected to the cook top, the other from the gas line? Space seems a bit tight and the angle of the connections at the cooktop and the ...

Any reason you don’t want to leave it as it is? It drops enough brick dust over a few days that I'd prefer to seal it. I lived in similar place (late Victoria terrace with party wall) some years ago that did the same. I've seen some exposed brick walls in a satin finish that quite looked good as we...

Hi, I'm renovating a kitchen/living area which has a part exposed brick wall that I want to clear coat. It's been thoroughly cleaned (hydrochloric acid) but unsure what product to use to seal it? Asking at Bunnings they recommend "Crommelin Brick And Render Water Based Sealer" and Paintspo...

When the old flooring has been ripped up, as part of the rough-in you install all the waste pipes and traps with them coming up through the floor. You lay the sheeting and cut out neatly around the shower and floor waste pipes then cut them off flush with the flooring. The waterproofing then is app...

Hi, I'm doing a small bathroom reno, new vanity, shower and base, but unsure how I connect the shower floor drain to the waste pipe and trap underneath if there's no access. On a previous reno I was able to get under the house to attach the trap but in this place there will be no access if I put dow...

We've gone 90's throughout for no other reason that when I got the sparky in to replace the halogens that is what he had in stock. Had 70mm halogens in the bathrooms originally which we've replaced with 90mm LED's set at 6500K. Previously for shaving I needed to switch on both halogens plus the lig...

LED downlights like these https://robus.com.au/catalogue/downlights/studio-led-downlight allow you to select your lumens (3000-400-6500K) via a switch on the back of the unit. That way you can experiment to see what colour suits best. I've got these in a Living room and in two bathrooms. Brilliant ...

Lighting fills three needs: ambient, task and accent. In a kitchen, task lighting is the most important. I presume your rangehood over the cooktop has good lighting, so I think you need three across the front of the island, otherwise you will be working in shadow. The rest will provide ambient, and...

Apologies if this has been asked before, I couldn't find a previous post with a similar question. I'm currently renovating a shared kitchen/living space and trying to decide on LED size 70mm or 90mm cutout and placement. Also deciding on lumens but I think 3000k/warm white is the way to go. The spac...
