We have been deciding between two homes.. homebuyers centre the monarch 26 or vienna q2 by henley. Thank you for your valuable advice. Hey MaureenDean - (as at late January 2020) how is your build going and who did you end up choosing? Who did you choose as your Building Surveyor (RBS) and the separate (different to RBS) Building Inspector (BI)? As I was in contact with some builders one of them...

Hi there. Yes I have the land ready to go, it's in Hawthorn East. I'm probably still about 3-6 months away before I can break ground so trying to do some research and see if I owner build with the assistance of a builder friend (to try save money), OR just give the project to a builder entirely and...

Is there a big difference in using a local city council 'municipal building surveyor' (in this case Whittlesea City Council in South Morang VIC 3752) vs a 'private building surveyor' (eg: Tekcon | Grimbos | Krneta | NicholsonWright )? Is the municipal one free (or at least much cheaper)? At what sta...

I am also interested to find some project managers to help with an 'Owner Builder' project. Hey ksun1985 - are you doing an "owner-builder" in Victoria (Melbourne)? You already own the land? Which area? Have you gone thru all the processes below? You have your 'white card' already? https:...

We are using Peter from Final-Inpect. We were referred by reading some else's blog. Peter has been great and has already paid for himself according to my DH. We are getting all stages inspected and it's costing less than 1% of the cost of the build. During our lock up stage, Peter spotted some ****...

Is it normal for a 'recommended' RBS to also to be your 'provided' BI? One builder [not volume] did say that they recommend a certain RBS and then also said the exact same person [ 1 ] [ 2 ] is the BI they provide for free as part of the final price ::study:: Although they did say we are more than w...

I built with Metricon in NSW in 2017 their business model and processes are consistent across Australia. Based on my experience I would not recommend them. Most volume builders would use the same pool of available low cost contractors operating in the area and national suppliers, as well as residen...

Consider Hotondo Homes business model. They are brand franchise business, not a builder. The registered builders are different, and independent in each location therefore only the franchise driven marketing and sales processes will be consistent. I would suggest that you stay well away from all mentioned in your post other than Hotondo . Also look at HomeBuyers and DennisFamily . These guys build good homes and welcome private inspectors. - Small Minds Thanks Small Minds, will keep everyone posted of the progress

Yes TeslaCyberTruck, going through the list of inclusions is a must. That's the only way you can compare value for money with each volume builder. I have heard Hotondo allows modifications if you're after some. I am leaning towards Carlisle and Henley, so my likely order right now Carlisle, Henley,...

I tried to be smart, got my own floor plan ($1,000, TAFE designers charge $750), soil report and contours and earthworks quote and got quotes from three builders. The advantage of getting quotes with your own floor plan is that things are a bit more competitive; one builder dropped $10,000 once he ...
