Rebuilding retaining wall
Renovation + Home Improvement

I have a house awaiting settlement so I can't exactly back out! Anyway, the house has a paved patio at the back held by a retaining wall at the end as the property slopes downward in the backyard. When I first inspected the property I noticed that the patio wasn't level at the far end and thought I ...

Are we doing the right thing re increasing home value?
Increasing Home Value

I suppose the simple answer would be yes it would increase your property's value; don't see why it wouldn't. I bought a 2br unit for $250k in February of this year while those with renovated interiors were going for $275-310k. I had the interior renovated (new paint, kitchen, bathroom, carpet bedroo...

Kitchen door/divider?
Kitchen Corner

I have recently fully renovated my 20-25yo 2br unit. The 'closed' kitchen room (as opposed to the modern open kitchens) has an entrance the size of a door from the living room...like most kitchens made at that time. The question is whether I should leave it as is or have a divider of some sort. I ac...

Funny that, I'm in a similar situation. I'm fully renovating my unit and its taking forever but had to move out of my rental 3 weeks ago. All my things are in the garage but I'm living on my mate's couch at the moment. Since I'm single with no family/kids its not that complicated.

Instinct told me to change the locks right after settlement. Not long after I decided to renovate pretty much everything--kitchen, bathroom, flooring, and paint. Two weeks on I realised the keys have been with countless tradesmen--painters, tilers, electricians, plumbers, etc. So should I change my ...

Thanks guys. After looking at my walls again they're a bit more yellow than I had imagined. I passed by the showroom this morning and now I'm leaning towards Cashmere.

Paula…..I have said this before, and it can be a problem. :? If your computer doesn’t have a good graphics card in it, you will not see the colours CLOSE to what they are. My kitchen renovator doesn't have an extensive showroom. Fortunately for me the CaesarStone showroom is in Sydney so I might po...

It depends if you want to match or contrast? I haven't quite decided yet but yeah I agree a shade of brown is best. Espresso would be good contrast colour though!

CAESAR STONE OR GRANITE??

I'm having my kitchen built with Laminex and Caesarstone. From what I've read granite and Ceasar both have their advantages/disadvantages. It seems "engineered stones" require less maintenance.

My recently purchased unit has a bathroom and a toilet room. The toilet room has these really tiny tiles, like 3cm each. I want to change them and my renovator said the cheaper way would be to put new tiles over them, lifting the floor up by 7mm. I don't know how this would look as I'll have floorbo...

Is $1000 a realistic figure for an electrician to charge for a day's work changing 11 light fittings and 6 wall sockets? I don't know but that seems like a ripoff and I'm getting another electrician to give me a quote on Monday.
