Are you aware that wood fire ovens use refractive materials? You won't be able to just build the shape into the cavity with concrete and sand stone. Yes I’m aware of this. Above the slab, part of the inside of oven I’ll be laying firebricks. Is that what you’re referring to? Yep. Just making sure y...

Hi Guys, i have a rock feature in my backyard and want to build a wood fire pizza oven into it. Using rough measurements I put together a temporary form using scraps to understand how much I need to build up underneath the rear end of the slab to make it level, because the bottom rock slopes away t...

Dude - Please - you are helping me. I'd rather do it right the first time (in my case, the second time).

OK - I have decided that i will saw off the profiled ends, after all, the gutter is going to hide it anyways. I got 2 of 90x45 and 2 of 70x45 One of the 90x45 will sit flat against the wall and i will nail it down to the ledger beam and rafters to provide some strength in that area. The other will s...

Ok - Heres a thought - How about if i use a 90x45 for the top, sitting 90mm away from the wall and triple griped into the rafters, that way the sheet will only have to bend over a 45mm width and not a 90mm one.(figure a) Then half way down i use a 45x45 (figure a) Then right at the end i use 45x45 p...

Ok - Heres the deal with the roof. I spoke with the local roof guy and he suggested the following. For trimdek profile im gonna put a 100mm batten against the wall, a 50mm half way down and something thin or nothing at the end. (or 90x90 then a 45x90) Still dont know how im gonna nail a fricken 90x9...

Finally a decent weekend with hopefully a decent week to follow. I finally redid the footings. I hope you approve this time.. I added an extra bolt to the top of each post as well and braced them against the beam. Im thinking of adding another set of bracing, on the corners of the ledger beam and th...

Hey Duke. Still havent done anything yet regarding the posts. I've been away and the rain isnt helping either. As soon as the weather clears i will be adding the battons and extra bolts no the top of each post. As i had prevuiously mentioned i am gonna take your advise and remove the existing concre...

Ok Kewl, Now with the battens, if i get 70x35 how far apart should they be?? You also mentioned something about different pitch for different types of roofing, can you advise which to use for the least amount of pitch? The 2 designs i had in mind were (both using 5 sheets wide): Colorbond | Poly | C...

Excellent, thanks for that photo. One more question. If you see in my photo of the footing that i currently have, the post sits sort of in the middle of that area where i have remived existing pavers. I just measured it again and the size of that area is 340x340. Obviously i will need to break the e...

Hi Duke, Im definitely not putting a roof on until i fix the footings. I will take your advise and use the same design post anchor but at 300mm length. I left my footings for 3 weeks until i drilled them, is that a decent amount of time to wait before i insert the posts back in? Just to confirm, whe...

My rafters are approx 2' pitch. depending on the type of roofing i will probably double up the batten along the back wall to increase the pitch.

Ok, The bracing i have already done but it wasnt in the picture. I will add 2 more bolts. Repouring of the footings will be my last resort. If i do go down that path what type of bracket/stirrup shoudl i use?

Hi, Is it possible to add concrete to existing concrete. I have a pergola that has 2 of its posts sitting on stirrups that are bolted to 300x300x300mm of concrete. The height of the concrete block is about 150mm below the surface of the adjacent pavers and the strirrup is 130mm tall so i want to pou...

Hi All, I have just recently built a pergola (image attached). Basically its a ledger beam dyna-bolted to the back wall, 7 rafters butted up to the beam and sitting on top of the other beam on 2 posts. The problem im having is that the pergola wobbles. Not to the point where its gonna collapse but e...
