Hi We are currently looking at builders and want a gas cooktop. Also don't intend to use a barbie as well. So would it be best that if we tell the builder to not get a gas connection at all. Will we have to pay for gas supply charge if there is a connection but we don't use it at all? If you want a...

Thanks g33kerb0t . Are there any recommended ones somewhere? It depends on your state. I only know a few from VIC. Maybe jump on your build forum on fb - people ask for these all the time. You'll get a recommendation with previous work from your state. Building the Votivo43 - https://forum.homeone....

Hi everyone, We're doing our first time build through Metricon on land that is currently due to title in June. Apparently it's a good idea to get an independent inspector and I've heard good things about Darbecca. I reached out them to get a quote and got back a breakdown of how much it will cost a...
Personally, I find them very expensive. I suggest you get a few quotes from others. There's plenty out there who are reg...

I don't have this in my contract as I signed earlier last year. The last statement on clause 13 is pretty much useless, as the inspector's real value is what they look for underneath all the walls and trim - are they complete, according to building code, within tolerance, etc. They wouldn't see anyt...

There are step downs to the porch, garage, and alfresco hence the difference in heights. They are to prevent water from getting into your house and will also allow you to install deck or tiles later on. Looks okay to me as well. Nice finish. On the 7th pic from the top why the concrete at different ...

Week 3: We've got a slab! Wasn't expecting it to be quick but so far SS seems to be on top of things. Next week frames will be delivered. Unfortunately we were not able to do pre pour inspection as it was too short notice and our inspector wasn't available. We'll get the post-pour slab inspection do...

You should be able to. They should have a blank contract that they can share with you. Builders have different inclusions, materials, and suppliers. You may be comparing the base house price and upgrades but their trades, frame, steel, brick, etc. come from different suppliers. Naturally one will be...

So far site cut was done on time. We are supposed to do slab pour on the 16th, but based on what I've seen onsite, I doubt they'll be able to do it on time. I'm not in a rush so I'll let them do it in a reasonable timeframe. I don't want a rushed half-baked job with so many errors. The SS seems to b...

We are getting Jeannette Gage to do our inspections. I suppose the estate developer wanted to get the trees in early that's why they've already planted them in the nature strip. Wow really happening now! Who are doing your inspections? And why the tree before construction finished?? Congrats must be...

We have yet to finish base stage so I can't comment on timelines yet, and they have not completed the slab mesh and formwork so there's nothing to inspect yet. We intend to do 2 inspections at base stage - one pre-pour to check the steel and formwork, and another one post-pour to check for slab leve...

It really depends on your facade and the look you're after. There isn't a straightforward answer to this I'm afraid. I've seen houses with a monument or basalt roof and windows, with brown bricks. For us we've chosen terrain garage, wallaby for the roof, and woodland gray for the windows. Our brick ...

Fingers crossed. I'm hoping at least they get the frame and roof up to protect the the wood from the weather. I'm not really in a rush. I want them to take a reasonable amount of time and do an excellent job. Congrats g33. You are off to a flying start by the looks. Hopefully you can get much done t...

We're building in Sunbury. Great news g33. Where are you building by the way? Site costs was a killer for us and to hear you got credit is indeed a blessing. Building the Votivo43 - https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=88553
