I wanted to touch up some paint on existing house. I took a photo of all the paints used during the house build and they are all from the Dulux professional range. How do ordinary folks like us get access to this as it's not really available online or at places like Bunnings?

I'd wait for things to settle down. I'd also be very careful about building with smaller builders and builders with weak balance sheets as inflation is out of control everywhere. A lot of builders needs money from future jobs to pay for existing jobs that's already in progress (cash flow management ...

I have double glazed laminated 3mm+3mm on one side and regular 4mm hardened on the other. The main advantage is UV protection for internal furniture/flooring and since it's baked in the product and sandwiched between 2 glass sheets, the different thickness also offers better acoustic filtering. To b...

Normally you don't disconnect water during KDR unless you are moving the water meter. Even then, construction cannot start until water is connected. Water is required at all stages of construction.

Hi members, can you share your experience and advise on the heating and cooling options for the new double story townhouse build in Melbourne south east. Not sure what options are cost effective and also energy efficient to run at low cost. some of the options I can think of: 1. Ducted Gas Heating ...

Chose Comdain. I also found L37 a bit arrogant and their inclusions seems really bad compared to the price they charge. Comdain seems expensive at the start but they only use quality materials. Behind the surface, Comdain is a cut above your typical major builder. They use support grade thick frames...

It won’t work. If you want to do that, go down the owner builder path. You can’t just squeeze builder margins and expect them to just sit there and nod not to mention the legal mess with warranty. Building a house is not like buying a TV.

Didn't use steam oven much at all. Just easier with stove top steamer. Same issue, lots of clean up. I got a plumbed in version, even worse, now i have to worry about burst water main. Not sure if it's worth the trouble. The biggest issue is low temperature. Max 225C which is not hot enough if you w...

It’s caused by tenant. I had the same thing in my own property in the kitchen over period of 2-3 years. Sometime it’s hard to mop every it of moisture esp in kitchen. I laid the boards myself with foiled underlay and even used anti moisture glue for the kitchen area. Granted I had a newborn which al...

Well termites can’t chew through a concrete path that’s properly chaulked. Concrete path also helps drain moisture away from your footing to avoid slab movements.

My architect basically had strip drains along the entire perimeter then buried it in pebbles so you can’t see it. Water falls right through so drains still function fine. The strip drains are slightly lower than the concrete path so after pebbles the whole thing finishes flush. https://uploads.tapat...

I've intentionally steered clear from integrated dishwashers, worried about what happens if there are issues or changing it later down the track. Easy as to switch out a freestanding one, but an integrated one seems it'd require more effort to do so? There is no big difference apart from 4-6 screws...

Sounds like the landscaper (or whoever laid your finished surface outside the house) didn't pay any attention to the level of whatever path is outside your laundry and made it flush or close to flush. Couple that with inadequate drainage on the outside and you have a situation. If you ring your buil...

Got the keys today. Excited! House looks lovely. Pics soon! If you are doing a concrete path around the house, pay attention to your weepholes. I can see it's technically non-compliant as it is less than 150mm from unfinished ground. With concrete paving, it's 75mm which is actually impossible when...

I have discovered there is a lot of standing water at the base of my house footing in the front porch. If I remove the water, an hour later the water comes back as if I have a underground water well. I was told by the builder’s plumber that it’s cause by the service trench they dug to run mains wate...

hi guys, if you can help me that will be great.
