I built a solar passive house. The inside walls are brick to store the heat overnight and the exterior walls are insulated timber frame to minimize heat loss/gain. The eaves overhang was calculated to provide shading during summer but still allow solar heat gain during winter.

Roof is on! ::cheerleader:: Had a text from the roofer last night - originally I was going to be there to lay the insulation as they lay the tin. But with the current situation he said they would do the insulation as well (it was all sitting inside the containers waiting to go, so I sent the roofer...
Looking good. Nice views from your roof

Treated particle board flooring can withstand limited exposure to the weather. Refer to manufacturers tech data sheets. It is typically 4-6 weeks not months/years. If the roof will not be ready consider using galv nails with treated flooring as normal nails will rust very quickly. My own OB proceede...

I have seen some building sites recently and noticed different builders use different timber, some using blue (treated) timber framing while others don't use the blue timber framing. What's the difference between the two? Blue is H2 termite treated (light duty) suitable only for use above ground an...

The drawing shows posts at 2400mm centres. That means a lot of posts. I would have the posts a lot further apart with larger beams (I live in a stilt house built on a very steep block). Is your land in high BAL area? If it is, special measures may be required to prevent embers blowing in under the h...

Once your build is at lockup, a permanent electrical supply can be installed with a working power outlet in the meter box.

Hi All I'm in the opening stages of a minimalist owner-build in Midway Point, Hobart. We've had our own design drawn up and would expect our building permit any day now. This is going to be a very low budget build and we (my husband and I) are going to be doing much of the work ourselves. We're not...

I used Linea Scyon boards 150mm x 16 x 4200mm composite cement boards on my owner build. They look exactly like timber boards but the termites don't eat them. https://forum.homeone.com.au/u/58648_1508579005.jpg

Minor update. The grass is still too green begin to cut fire breaks so I decided to start paving around the house before it gets too hot to work outside. Hopefully some paving will reduce the amount of dust and gravel that is tracked inside. https://forum.homeone.com.au/u/58648_1508208710.jpg
