Our builder advised us to contact Boral for an inspection, which we did. Someone came out and replaced a number of tiles in addition to the ones replaced by the solar installer. He said the way the tiles were cracked suggested a problem with the installation - something about the way the nail was ha...

The bench with all the appliances on it seems quite crowded. Would you consider moving the sink to the island? If there is room you could increase the depth of the island, and have some shallow cupboards opening to the other side, that would accommodate a sink better than a narrow island. If you’d p...

Thanks SaveH2O and Stewie. We had a lot of spare tiles and the cracked/broken ones have been replaced. The photos were taken by the head of the team when he went up on the roof to inspect it, before the rest of the team went up to put the panels on. He showed us the photos before anyone else went on...

Our house is 4 years old, and nobody has been on the roof in that time. I can remember two short hailstorms since we’ve been here, with small hailstones, around 5mm diameter. We got solar panels installed recently and the installer found many roof tiles with hairline cracks, and one that had complet...

Because of the island alignment though, I'd still favour a door that matches the cabinetry over glass

The symmetry would be lovely but your pantry would be on perpetual display - if that's something you can cope with then go for it. You could leave the door but have it match the kitchen cabinetry, which would also balance things

I don't know if this is of any use to you now, but we've used Ageless and while I like it a lot, our tiles are a bit cream. Ageless can throw a yellow or even green in some light. I don't know that I would use it with a grey tile.

When our neighbours were in the same position, they had a real estate agent come out to assess their place. Based on their property and market conditions, he recommended selling or KDR, but advised against renovations or adding a second storey. A builder who lived in the street had been very enthusi...

We ended up with a mix of DC and AC fans. Both DC models are quite, move lots of air on the highest speed setting, and have a very slow speed on the lowest. I wish we'd just forked out the money for DC fans in the bedrooms too! Without doing a head to head comparison with the Haiku, I'd guess that m...

We were considering the Haiku and probably would have bought them but at the time we were ready to buy they were running down existing stock for the new model and couldn't get exactly what we wanted. We ended up with the Minka Aire Aviation from Beacon and are very pleased with them. Beacon had a go...

Re: which builders have quickest construction time in Sydney
Building A New House

Many builders still have contracts with standard construction times of 9/10 months but many seem to take longer to actually build, judging by the homes going up around us. I've seen Wisdom, Metricon and Clarendon homes go up quickly, perhaps ask on those threads for some first-hand experience.

Building A New House

Building a new house is exciting but can be stressful, so do your research before you commit. Visit as many display homes by as many different builders as you can - we did this for about 9 months, and looked at countless floor plans, before we chose a builder. Sounds like you've chosen one with a go...

Have you seen other homes around you being built by the same company? Might give you an idea if Newstart is beset by the same problems. Huxley homes in Sydney have been taking a long time to build. Our neighbours built with Huxley and it took a little over two years from the time Huxley took control...

We have ceilings of a similar height and were advised to use a rod to have the fan sit 2.4-2.5m above the floor. Our electrician installed them at 2.4m, he said they looked a little too high at 2.5m. I think now they look a little low but I guess it's better for cooling than at the higher height.

We have 4000K throughout and think they look great, I find the 3000K lights too yellow and 5000/6000K too blue. There are differences in light from one brand of downlight to the next though. We used brightgreen D900 lights downstairs and a cheaper light upstairs. The brightgreens have a hint of yell...

We have a whole slab, although I think it's 1400 rather than 1500mm. We're looking forward to all that bench space! It doesn't look too big but there was room for it http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160707/926b68a7203a06493d1e26bb8441b95d.jpg
