Hi iankun We are still thrilled to be living in our Mitcham house. Having previously built our own house, bit by bit, over the years, it is a joy to look at the workmanship of professionals. We did add a lot of extras, most of which we thought was worth the extra money. These include: * As much insu...

Hi Bradles It is now a year since we moved in to our Mitcham house, which we altered in many ways. The front looks like one of the options, except that we had to decrease the width of the garage to fit onto a narrow block. Are you interested in this?

I would not build with any other builder than Elderton. I would rather wait because Elderton uses good tradespeople and they make the difference between a well built house and an average one. Just be patient.

hello again Bluemviews I just found the Elderton design options for the Carrington Grange. I like the Walk in Pantry Option. The kitchen in the standard Carrington Grange House has little room for storage and the Walk in Pantry Option would be so useful. Change the entry to the garage from that litt...

The Carrington Grange has some similarity to the Mitcham that we are building. We did not have enough space for a double garage so we cut the side off the garage and the resulting building is exactly the same width as yours is on the top floor. Because of its location near transport, we will not mis...

Hi Newbie Our building site is not only narrow, it is in a street with 2 hour parking, and the house is quite close to the footpath. Hence deliveries have to be made in batches, and rubbish has to be collected at regular intervals. I was amused to look at a street view on Google Earth and found that...

Hi Newbie The brickwork was finished a couple of months ago. I can't remember how long it took. Our site is a bit difficult in that the house is only 900mm from one side fence and little more from the other. That makes bricklaying on the upper floor difficult. One thing that holds up the brickwork i...

At times I wish I had the phone number of the SS. I asked our SS if we could have his phone number and he refused. He said it was against Elderton's policy. I can imagine that he could be inundated with calls if everyone contacted him with every issue or bit of information required.. I have had no p...

Hi Mr Platto I am not bulding at Harrington Grove, but am building with Elderton. I am at the tiling stage. I have been quite impressed by the quality of the workmanship with Elderton. Their tradespeople are regulars and carefully chosen.

We did have a problem with the building, but I am pleased to see that Elderon acted upon our complaint immediately. It gives me a lot of confidence in their future work. Choosing a builder is hard as you don't really know what you are getting in to, but I think we made the right decision.

If the paint is a plastic paint, it might rub off with a rag with methylated spirits on it. That would need a had rub.

Good morning Newbie at Caddens What are you doing up at this time of the morning? Thinking about problems with building with Ekderton as I am currently doing? I have not had any problems with communications at head office. But have run into a problem in the building process. Big to me, maybe that is...

Hi Joffofoz I am choosing my light fittings at the moment - to be installed after handover. If I run out of money at the end, I can put up with bayonet fitting lamps. I have however really splurge on a 4 pendant light fitting over the island bench in the kitchen and a matching 3 light fitting over t...

Hi Angebaz Now is the time for you to do a LOT of thinking about what you exactly want. At the stage you are at, the house design is the most important thing. But later on you will think of so many more things you want. Somewhere on homeone I found a very long list of things to consider before you s...

To Blackenator You asked what Elderton was like to deal with. So far I have no complaints. Everything is straight down the line. They give you a price for a standard home and that is what you get. I have looked wistfully at the other project home builders who seem to throw in a few sweeteners, but E...

Thanks for your interest. Are you building with Elderton, or considering doing so? On 21st January we called drove past the land and found the SS sitting on the kerb chasing away anyone who wanted to park in front of the site. The previous day a truck with all our frames had been unable to park ther...

I built a brick veneer house some time ago as an owner builder. The house was next to the M4 in Sydney but the block was cheap. I looked into sound insulation very carefully, and built a house that is so quiet you can almost lie in bed and hear your heart beating. I used thick rock wool insulation a...
