Re: Ever had your build undervalued?
Building A New House

I felt like we were overcaptilising, especially when our site costs were about 50k but our house came in exactly what we spent on it so that was a relief.

Building A New House

I found the clean with Dale Alcock to be quite amazing actually. I had budgeted a day for cleaning when we moved in but the house was impeccable. Whoever they used for the post builders clean did an amazing job, wasn't much left for us to do.

Having built on a battle-axe block as well I think you just can't escape the extra site costs. Ours were around that as well but we also had to pay an extra $6000 to raise the height of the slab after going through council as well as the cost of removing and replacing all the boundary fencing. I thi...

Wow that's a big bathroom, I love it. We didn't do feature tiles either and I haven't regretted it either. I think they will date very quickly.

Kitchen Corner

I wanted an all white kitchen but then I got worried it would look too sterile so I did a half and half. I know our white was polar white but can't remember what the other colour was, moose something I think. http://i927.photobucket.com/albums/ad111/navskore/2014-04/82628C07-E0D7-4ECB-BFC8-7DF66CDC2...

Re: Pendant Lights vs Down Lights in the Kitchen!
Building A New House

We were going to put pendants in but I think we went a bit crazy on the downlights and we definitely don't need them down. Also because it's open plan, I felt like the pendants might break the room up and feel smaller.

I would double check that contract, I thought ours said the same thing but it said they have 220 working days which is 44 weeks. They don't count public holidays and christmas and stuff like that in there too. We went turnkey as well as we didn't want to deal with anything after handover except wind...

Oo keep on top of stuff like that, they were trying to tell us it was our fault that the shelf was there and I was like that's ridiculous, why would it have specified dimensions for a regular shelf. Haha that's true actually, the hardest part has been our parents guest lists, no I don't want that di...

Congratulations on slab down that is awesome!!! It took us 9.5months from slab down to key handover so I don't know if you will get in that soon but I most certainly hope you do. We had the same thing with our CLO, she never gave us updates and it seemed like you almost have to harass them. Our key ...

Would've liked to have met our CLO but she was on leave, key handover took all of 15mins and was a bit of an anti-climax tbh but I'm excited to have a drink at our house today. If anyone is building with Dale's and wondering, yes they are still giving a Nespresso coffee machine. I was kind of hoping...

From my experience, get everything in writing - get those pool guys to guarantee it in writing and that way if it does get damaged you've got recourse. Everything verbal can be denied later. Fabulous news about the tiles. Yep the hard work is over for now, you deserve a wine. It's amazing how many m...

It really has been a rollercoaster and a very long 20month journey since we first looked at the land but key handover today so very excited :z: :z: I found a bottle of champagne chilling in the fridge when I was making my breaky too that my fiance must've put in. Now we can finally stop paying rent ...

Mine is a similar height and is behind the kitchen cabinetry so you get full fridge depth. You can move it if you don't like it.

I know it would cost a lot more and they would need to get a tiler too as they didn't tile underneath it the ss was saying so guessing it would not be a cheap fix as originally the ss said she could do it at PCI but has since said she can't. We probably should but we are literally getting our keys o...

I like blue bottle. I reckon go for it. In saying that I went really safe with my colour choices so I know where you're coming from but it's only a small part of the kitchen and easily replaceable down the track if you want to change it before selling.

We haven't installed ours yet so can't comment on their quality but Westral always send us fliers and pricing looks competitive so we will probably use them.

Don't be surprised with the variations that come throughout the build. At prestart we asked for a 450mm overhang on our kitchen island bench so we could have enough legrooom. My fiance asked our consultant twice if she was sure we wouldn't need extra reinforcements for this and she said no. A few mo...
