Wow I guess this isn't the forum for asking actual building questions. You posted this back in June and no one here has any response. I have some building experience but not much with Queenslanders. But I am about to go through the same as you with raising a Queenslander. So from what I understand a...

Hey everyone, Ive just bought an old workers cottage that of course is covered in fibro. It's been clad over with vinyl cladding at some point and that is now falling apart. I don't really want to get into removing the fibro and wondering if battening and then running hardie board cement lap siding ...

Just to give you something else to mull over. If putting the shut off behind the fridge should never be done, and only put in a cabinet. Can you tell me where the shut off went in YoullNeverWalkAlone's kitchen? I'm guessing you would have put it in the open space behind the books. ::: http://img5.im...

Without seeing how this is framed, it's next to impossible to give you any accurate or even ball park numbers. Someone might throw out a number and it's either going to make you happy or sad, but it wont have any bearing on what your project is really going to cost. You need to have someone local wh...

Yes you can cut acrylic panels no problem. But you have to be specific about how its going to trim out around the window, thats the bit that can be tricky. Why not just build that nib wall as pictured, then run a diagonal seat from the nib to the back wall. The tiler usually just uses bricks to buil...

I'm just surprised how behind Australia is in many building practices. Installing one of these recessed boxes behind the fridge is the standard in the US. http://www.plumbingsupply.com/images/metal_ice_maker_box.jpg

I'm pretty sure most front venting dryers are made specifically to vent straight out without a pipe, (other wise you'd have a pipe laying around in the room) Why don't you just get a dryer with a normal rear/side vent and then run your pipe from that? Or as E1109 said, if you have a window or exhaus...

You should be fine to go ahead, the rough side IMO would be better for adhesives to stick to. Cool, thanks! Yes does seem like it would be a better surface, but they must have designed it like that for a reason.

Maybe extend the WIR wall to be inline with the 2m wall and remove the 1m wall.

I'm installing a 6mm tile underlayment that has a pre printed nail schedule on one side and a slightly rougher surface on the other. I have one off cut left that would go nicely into the last section to be covered, but it would only fit if I used it with the rougher side up. Does it matter which sid...

Firstly don't get fixed on thinking you know what it is. I'm not saying you are wrong, but sometimes you think you have figured out exactly what the problem is and can't see anything else because of it. Sounds like you isolated the issue, but you never know it might have been a coincidence that it s...

Wow that's a real biggie for your building assessor to miss. All that moisture pumping into the attic is not good. I'd hope this was just accidentally overlooked, probably due to the kitchen installers thinking the plumber or hvac guy were the ones to connect it up, or one of the other trades thinki...

Trust me mate if the kitchen is built properly there should be no gaps under your kickboards at all. You shouldn't even be able to slide a piece of paper under anywhere. The kickboards should also be built from plywood so water is not an issue! Fact is most kitchens are fitted by average installers...

You'll pay a lot more if you let the architect design your kitchen and chances are all he/she will do is hand it off to a kitchen designer he/she has worked with. The design of your kitchen has no bearing on the structure the architect is drawing, but he might like to have a copy of the design in ca...

Be nice to see a picture so as to be a bit clearer on what is involved. Birds mouthing the rafters has always been done, but sometimes on simple houses they may have left it out (sloppy workmanship is not just a symptom of the 21st century!) It could be you have an undersized ridge and its sagged, p...

All chattels found in the property belong to the purchasor unless exluded by contract and removed by the seller prior to settlement. Thats was a nice chattel to pick up. yes believe me, I checked with a couple of real estate attorneys, and an accountant before I did anything with the money. :)

I just wonder the $50,000 is yours, or you need to find the owner of the $50,000. Sometimes I felt confused. For example, I found a wallet on the street, I will try to find the owner and return to them. If I have not found the owner of the wallet, what should I do? Just feel confused. Comparing fin...

in European kitchens is at the bottom of the kickboard a sealstrip, to stop water going under the kickboard as the floor is not always 100% level. The kickboard is about 1-2mm of the ground because of it. The strip is not visible because it is in a groove in the middle of the kickboard. No floor is...
