Hi all, I'd like some advice on laying Lilydale Toppings in my backyard. My small garden (90-odd m2) is south facing and at the back of a sloping block; meaning that it gets a little boggy and doesn't get enough sun for a decent lawn. I've cleared the site and I'm starting from scratch! The design I...

Michelle, are you open to a compromise? Limed White half in the bedroom and quarter in the ensuite??

Scratch earlier post, I just realised that my sample pot of Dulux Male half looks considerably greyer than sample swatch, so i think the colour isn't accurate. I'm now thinking Limed White half for both bedroom and ensuite...

Thanks everyone for your suggestions - will definitely be changing the taps and fixtures, and LittleWing I think we're on the same wavelength, I was thinking along the lines of Limed White for the walls, which has a grey tone. I intend to do the trim in Whisper White. Michelle, I ended up doing the ...

Hi everyone, The developer that built my house really went wild with cream, on just about every surface! I've successfully de-creamed a lot of the house so far (kitchen, living, master bedroom) and now I need to tackle the ensuite bathroom: http://i1119.photobucket.com/albums/k629/glynjamin/Colours/...

Ok, better late than never! I finished my reno about 6 months ago and then work totally kicked me in the butt and I've been flat out ever since, so I haven't posted!! Here are some photos of the finished kitchen, we're really happy with it after living with it for half a year: http://i1119.photobuck...

Taffy, your headboard looks great! I think I'm going to give it a go myself - I've been watching some 'how to' videos on YouTube and it doesn't look *too* hard (eeeek!). Plus, I've always wanted to find an excuse to buy a staple gun - sold!!

I agree with Michelle, short curtains will just look really weird, and really highlight the fact that the windows don't go to floor level. Long curtains give a room a lot more vertical dimension, essentially making the ceiling look higher - which is always a good thing. *Perhaps* the only exception ...

Anna they look great!! I would love it if you could produce a tutorial - in particular for the green one! I would go for a plain rectangular style personally, but I would love to incorporate the tufted design, it's exactly what I'm after. Unfortunately, I haven't the faintest idea about upholstery!!

Hi all, I really want an upholstered headboard for my master bedroom - but the ones I've seen in stores are like $1000. Has anyone made their own?? If you have, post photos. And if you are feeling particularly generous, can you give me some instructions??? :)

I had never heard of King - I just looked up their website and they have some lovely products. Too be honest the lounges don't seem outrageously expensive and I guess I have the same philosophy with sofas as I do with beds - if you're gonna sit on it (sleep on it) everyday, you might as well love it.

Thanks everyone for your great suggestions! I really like the idea of the wallpaper ajantakadam and mimi, but unfortunately my partner is dead set against wallpaper altogether, so I'm afraid it will have to be a paint finish. I've put together another image with some of your suggested colours and so...

Hi Pauankim, I did think of navy and I think it would look great, but quite a bit of our bedding has blue in it and I was concerned it would be too much?

Hi everyone, My partner and I are giving our bedroom a bit of a facelift, and I'm a bit stuck on how to give it some impact. I do want to keep to a pretty earthy, neutral theme, but i was thinking a feature wall could really add some drama. Here's a bit of a mood board of what we have currently: htt...

I think when it comes to renovating your own home, use the professionals and don't overcapitalise on your initial investment. This seems to be an all to common problem and one that really gets people into trouble in the long run. Simple, cost-effective changes will reap rewards far easier and soone...
Further to Michelle's comments, the over capitalization thing doesn't really make an ounce of difference if you don't i...

Hey fred, my friend has recently put bamboo doors/facings in his laundry and they look great! You can see them on his blog, about halfway down this page: http://www.*.com/f176/icf-extension-project-76617/index9.html He's used vertical/horizontal bamboo. This is not as hardy as strandwoven bamboo (st...

vent piping should be flexible and with a turn if possible, so the oily stuff does not get drip down directly to rangehood over longer period. Hi Rojak, thanks for your input. I read somewhere that rigid, straight vent ducts result in a more efficient and quieter rangehood - which makes sense, sinc...

Hi Mick (mgilla), I wish the truss was sitting on blockwork! Unfortunately what you can see on that photo is gray, blow-in insulation (I hate the stuff) impersonating a breeze block. The truss (joist?) is running along the top of an internal wall, however, so it is probably being supported to some e...

Ray153, thanks for your advice. I'm afraid I have next to no idea about roofing structures and I haven't actually been up in the roof space to check it out up close. From the ceiling cut out I can see that it is a horizontal ceiling joist (that is flush with the ceiling plaster) and I assume it is a...
