Building A New House

Can't say I have been ignored by sales people. But, one salesman at a display home said to us (me and my husband) "if you want to build with us, you need money" !!! I didn't mind his comment that much, but DH never walked into that display home again, and needless to say, we didn't build with them.

We built in Franklin stage 1, and yes, it was delayed. We were told we would get the land between may-aug, I think we got it Sept end or even Oct. Not sure. We didn't mind the delay though. It gave us enough time to research builders and plans without having to pay interest on the vacant land. By th...

HELP! Hubbie won't let me get a colour consultant!
Building A New House

We went with a colour consultant - I can't stress enough how important it is to get some help with colours if you need it. We spent a few hundred dollars - worked out to be 0.1% of the construction cost. We told the consultant what we wanted, showed her a few pictures and she did the rest. Very very...

Any good builder in Canberra?

We have built in Canberra, will PM details to anyone who wants more info on the builder. We have a beautiful home and were quite happy with the process. Be careful when considering cheaper builders...what you think you would be saving might be lost in interest payments while waiting for a start/fini...

Bec, Yes, it is peruvian clay. Looks pink in pics and through the windows :), but not in "real life" I'm like you - cannot make up my mind - I like the handles, not sure whether I like them on the overheads. Thks for your opinion.

Our kitchen is almost complete. I've attached pics - what do you think? The kitchen company has put in handles on the overhead cupboards as well, we had asked for no handles on the overhead cupboards. He is willing to change the doors, but, we're not sure which looks better. I have attached pics wit...

For what it's worth, I like the first facade pic too - the glass to the roof line and the open balcony.

cabinfever, f I had to rate your post on a scale of 1-10, I'd give it 11 :) Thanks for the information. Not that I need it (house already designed and being bricked today), but that's a very useful post. Thks.

Height of overhead cupboards if ceiling height is 2.7

After looking at our plans again, I have realised that we cannot extend the bulkhead all through the kitchen (see attached image) I guess we have to stick to the original plan - 150 bulkhead and 970 overhead cupboards. Thks for all your comments and feedback.

If we extended the bulkhead all the way through the kitchen (assuming the builder will let us), should we then have the overhead cupboards all the way to the ceiling, or should we still have the additional 150 bulkhead between cupboards and ceiling?

Thks for the comments and feedback. I found a few kitchens online with bulkhead around 300, doesn't look right to me (see attached image). I think I should either stick with 970 high cupboards + 150 bulkhead or >970 high cupboards and <150 bulkhead. Any thoughts? I have to have a think about the app...

Elevations attached. Casa2, I'm concerned that the overhead cupboards might look odd if they're 970 in height. Most display homes I have seen have the cupboards around 800-850. If I get rid of the 150 bulkheads, the cupboard height will have to be 970+150!!

Hi, Just a quick question - Our ceiling height is 2700, the kitchen designer designed the cupboards as - lower - 930 in height space between overhead and lower cupboards - 650 overhead cupboards - 970 in height and then a bulkhead of 150. Someone suggested that the 970 height overhead cupboards woul...

Michelle, Another colour concept for you to comment on :) We have chosen Dulux Limed White 25% low sheen as our main wall colour. We're having feature walls in bed1, family, formal living (fireplace) and entry. We are considering dulux pale earth low sheen for bed1 and fireplace and dulux soft dove ...

Bec, The pdf gives the list of available colours. If you can't see the pdf, you could try and get a brochure from a kitchen place. The cost difference between normal doors and the aluminium framed ones is $1500 for our kitchen. Michelle, We haven't started yet, will start in the next 2 weeks :)
