Does anyone have any experience with this flooring? I was looking at Karndean and this Kenbrock flooring looks very similar. I'm suspicious it might even be from the same factory given the look, options and spec's (I'm pretty sure Kenbrock import all their product from reading their website). http:/...

Good quality bamboo (the stranded type) isn't cheap, you can get some hardwoods for a similar price. I'm still stuck on what flooring to put down myself, a guy at work said he put in manufactured Kempas 10 years ago and even with young kids and a big dog it still looks good...

My builder redid some external window sills for me which now look much better but I also noticed a few similar gaps left in the mortar at the window frame. Wasn't sure whether to bother raising it with them next week when we meet onsite but now I will.

Bunnings also sell (or at least did some time ago) a limited selection of ready made wall panels.

Seriously consider getting a building inspector in. They can tell you exactly what is acceptable and what is not under any official standards. The sooner you do this the better. It'll cost you maybe around $300 but is well worth it for the piece of mind.

A few suggestions; 1. As mentioned above, have the system ring you. 2. Be careful about telling your insurance company you have an alarm. The discount is small and if you forget to arm it they may deny your claim. 3. If you do sign up with a monitoring service, make sure they respond physically them...

I'm interested in the Ventex venetians as well but have not been able to find anyone who has had any experience with them. Interestingly these venetians are made by Mardo in WA and Mardo is owned by Kresta (which also owns Vista). They also have an online site you can buy them from; http://www.inner...

I think cast iron also has a courser surface and cookware is less likely to slide around. I upgraded to the top end Westinghouse gas stove for safety reasons (it includes automatic gas shutoff) and it is also suppose to include the cast iron trivets.

You might want to consider using pendant lights over the island bench, this is pretty common in display homes. There are lots of varieties and they can make a very nice feature. I'm putting 3 over my bench, one over the sink and the others centred over the bench space on each side.

Also consider security, it's much easier to pull off some tiles than remove a steel sheet. Although if you have a habit of locking yourself out tiles might be better, I know a few people that have had to get in through their roof more than once (why they seem to make it a habit of locking themselves...

There was a show on ABC about six months ago, “Is your house killing you?” and the presenters said the same thing; Use vinegar not bleach. They claimed the vinegar worked because the mould spore couldn't stop absorbing it and eventually 'exploded'.

I am also looking for effective insulation which will absorb noise coming from the busy street. I may put an extra layer of such insulation in the exterior walls. I found insulation which is used as a shield around and on the top of the frame of the house - http://www.protherm.com.au/prothermHome.p...
You also need to consider your windows for noise and thermal insulation. Look into laminated and/or double glazed, neit...

The builder has added some additional timber 'struts' at each end of the beam where the bricks are which I believe should prevent any lateral movement of the beam itself which was my main concern. Given the light weight pine used (for all the roof construction) it may not be much more than superfici...

Good that the builder will at least offer some remedies. Keep us updated! Or the builder says he offers a remedy but doesn't remedy anything and finishing the job without you seeing if said remedy was in fact remedy'd. Try saying that fast ;) I also sent a query to Archicentre (who provide free qua...

Good news (I hope), after appealing to my builder they've agreed to add additional support to the beam. Exactly what this means I'm not sure yet but I'll be pleased with almost anything at this point over what is there now. My ceiling will be going in very shortly so whether I get to see what they d...

Not personal experience but I asked someone who has built with them (he moved in last year) if he would do so again and he gave an emphatic no. It appears that once he'd signed the contract they basically were not interested in talking to him at all...

With the ground floor I would not want the toilet against the living area wall. Even with brick wall construction here in WA you would be able to hear people going about their business when it's quiet
