I fitted the large square bunnings shade sail over my father in laws pool. It is retained by 4 steel posts (100 x 100 x 5mm) that are all cemented at least 1mtr in the ground, and stand 2-3mtrs above ground. During the storms and wind in west Brisbane over the weekend it was fine. The sail flapped a...

Depends whether you want to do it yourself or not... I hooked up our neighbours fridge the other day, it didn't have a cap but. Turn off water at mains. Remove cap. Thread tape on pipe, fit tap fitting. Usually the hose for the fridge will have a large o-ring like a flick mixer has, well the one I d...

Blackjack sounds like a waterproofing membrane product. Years ago I helped a mate do exactly what you are talking about, I don't remember what the stuff we used was called, but it was a black tar like product in a 20lt bucket that we had to roll on and let cure before backfilling onto the blocks. To...

If it were only a few switches/not much work done then I woudn't worry about it. There is probably more pollution in the atmosphere than what the tradies generated, but that's just my opinion with no professional basis at all.

I think storm means that once you pull it up, there might be a washer or packer that you can remove that will drop the plate down.

An 80 grit flap wheel on a grinder will work better than a grinding disc. It won't be as fast, but will give you a much larger margin of error. Also check whether the material is steel or ally as you need to buy the right one for the material. Ally will clog up a disc made for steel in no time flat.

50 x 50 is an enormous top for a projector. Thinking about the projectors people I know have, you would be able to get away with a plate not much bigger than 20 x 30. Whether you wanted to use some ply and a single post with 3 or 4 legs at the bottom. I'd make it out of scrap steel I could scrounge ...

I can't help other than to ask, if Telstra/Servicestream have told you it'll be fine, and the builder is telling you it is a Telstra requirment, then I would be asking the builder to show proof, paperwork or something from Telstra to backup their claim.

No reason 3mtrs would be a problem on roof racks. So long as the bench doesn't hang more than 1mtr past the rear of the vehicle. I regularly carried 6.5mtr lengths when I had front & rear ladder racks on my hilux. I also tied a red flag off the back of the lengths just in case. But, it would als...

Have you tried any kitchen places in Newy? Surely there would have to be someone local that could do this, or ring the e-bay seller, they may well build benchtops for local installers? Or go for a 5 hour drive with some roofracks, depending on your vehicles fuel economy this might even be worth it.

Nope... Personally I'd rather find things, colours etc and do it myself with an amount of trial and error. The missus and I spent a lot of time in the displays looking at what colours, materials and fittings had been used, what we liked and didn't like about each one and made decisions for our house...

We didn't give our 'builder' anything but we used a volumn builder. We did however look after our tradies by taking up tasty treats the missus would cook, or a flask of coffee etc...

Looking at the picture now, I agree with JB1. It would be easier to do under the sink where fittings are used with normal threads and will be easily available. Thinking about it though, there was a water filter company years ago that had a fitting that screwed to the tap as you've described with a b...

I can't see you picture on my work pc, but you might want to try somewhere like Industrial Fitting Supplies (although they are in Brisbane) or Pirtek, somewhere like that will have a better selection of threads/fittings and bits that could be adapted to suit.

Since Telstra pit is a public property, anyone and everyone can access it, so sometimes it is left opened (which is very annoying) and I have to close it myself. While this is true, in reality how often does any tech need to get in there? Our previous house had underground power as well, 7 years th...
