Hi barker, good progress! Are you getting a bobcat for your dry riverbed? Believe me its the only way to go.... :D No Bobcat. Just a pick, a shovel, and a wheelbarrow unfortunately. Although I do have a lovely selection of shovels...

The grass I planted was a giant bag of cool season grass from bunnings, which I have used to seed the back paddock twice (first one kind of failed) and the bits in the pictures. The only place where I have added soil is around the house due to it being compacted fill once the house was built. I did ...

Hi all, It has been a good long while but I have been busy (not always with the garden though). http://i1260.photobucket.com/albums/ii575/tallong/20141029_192650_zps6a611371.jpg The grass I sowed bloomed brilliantly throughout autumn and survived the winter. There is some patchiness now but it is st...

So the grass is coming along great (5 mows in but I think the horses hate me as I won't let them eat it yet as the roots are still not strong enough to handle their pulling). I have also go the retaining wall up around the other side from where I cut out the dirt to use as fill. So I thought it woul...

I has not taken well near the garage nor around the back. The main places it has taken well were the areas that I 'filled in' with the dirt/rock I dug out from around the other side of the house. My guess is that because this was compacted with a soil float whereas the fill next to the house was com...

it is very exciting! Today I gave it a little trim as according to my ruler it was getting up to 11cm and so I mowed it back to about 6 cm (got about two handfuls of clippings). I will also re-fertilise next week. Hoping to get some rain this weekend to help it along as well. Also, one of my compost...

So it is still patchy, but the seed is taking well. Starting to taper off the watering and some parts are almost at mowable level. Will apply another round of fertiliser mid-April. I still have spare seed so might scatter it through the paddocks just in case any decides to take hold. According to th...

Thanks AKB When I designed the logs, I left a section no terraced to act as a ramp at either end of the house so I can still drive up, push the mower up, etc. Made it very easy as I got them to bring the small truck which could drive up and then dump it where I needed it. So today I got it all finis...

So I have been quiet for a while, plodding along. I got all the fill moved around and levelled (mild slope for drainage) out new area. Got 5 tonne of soil and have started spreading it out as a top layer ready for some lawn seed. Hope to get it done by tomorrow to make use of the good rain and moist...

Got home today to large piles of dirt. My wife had a present for me. The landlord next door had been doing maintenance on the property in between tenants and they had worked out one case of beer for an hour's bobcat work. So now...all the digging out is done! http://i1260.photobucket.com/albums/ii57...

I moved all of them except the 4 metre one by hand. That one I used a 4wd. For the others I either carried, rolled, crab-walked them with ropes, lifted them onto my little garden cart and dragged, or put on their ends and dragged them to where I needed to go. Very tiring but you feel like Hercules w...

Progress is slow, but there is progress. I needed more logs so I have taken them from the kids' playground which also meant moving the plants and garden edging so that took a few hours. http://i1260.photobucket.com/albums/ii575/tallong/20131206_195059_zps9d57446e.jpg Now there are three proper level...

Thanks to all the comments so far. About to go have a well-deserved milkshake. I am up to 25 wheel barrow loads cut out and transferred and barely made a dint. A dingo or bobcat would be quicker, but not in the budget. I keep reminding myself that I am simultaneously working on two projects so the e...

Been a bit quiet here for the past year. Settling in. Have curtains in three rooms and paper blinds in the rest. Have two light fittings. The vinyl plank flooring we put in started to lift in places so we put in a product recall. They inspected it and said it could not handle the sharp temperature c...

Warning: Prone to ramble... Hi all, I moved into our new house almost a year ago (see my old thread here http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=53000 ) and for most of this time, DW and I have been focusing on taming the 3 acres into some horse paddocks and getting some grass going. DW...
