Hi MClark, thanks for the reply - much appreciated. Any specific thoughts on leaving the 40mm gap for termites, and whether about 5mm would be enough gap to leave under the joists for drainage and air circulation?

Hi, I know there a lot of deck threads but I have some specific questions I couldn't find answers to. Apologies if they have been addressed already and I missed them. We're planning to build a simple deck over an existing covered concrete slab 3.4m x 6.6m in size. There is only about 80mm height ava...

Thanks for the reply. No, it gets little yellow flowers actually. I don't have a photo of those though unfortunately. It does look very similar otherwise.

Hi, can anybody please help with identifying this vine? It's taking over in the bushland near our place and has killed a number of trees already. We've contacted council about it but they have been slow to respond. Thanks in advance. https://forum.homeone.com.au/u/20168_1580449908.jpg https://forum....

Just updating this for the benefit of anybody researching in the future. We ended up getting two 30W Verbatim floodlights and they have been perfect. They light up the yard and surrounding bush really nicely without being too over the top. It's a really nice even spread of light and we're glad we go...

Thanks for your reply. That's certainly pretty cool! I don't think it's quite right for our needs though - we have a couple par38 fittings there already but that's actually what we want to replace as they've just given us constant problems. The idea is to replace it once with some high quality flood...

Hi all, we have clumps of what I believe is Urtica Urens ("dwarf nettle") coming up throughout our lawn of Saffire buffalo. It really stings when you touch it. We've tried to pull it out by hand but are rapidly losing the battle. Does anybody know how we can get rid of it without killing t...

Hi all, We need a couple of LED floodlights that will be attached to a sensor to light up our backyard for a combination of security and task lighting. We've narrowed it down to two similarly specc'ed options (below), and I was hoping somebody might be able to suggest which brand would be better qua...

Hi all, A big branch of our orange tree has suddenly started losing all its leaves. The rest of the tree looks healthy to me, and I'm wondering if we need to chop off that branch (e.g. to stop spread of some disease??) or leave it and hope that it gets new growth after the leaves fall off. The affec...

Hi all, Our neighbour has been building and the tradies have dug a large services ditch along our nature strip which has come very close to a tree, severing through a bunch of its roots. Please see the photo attached. We believe the tree is a Tuckeroo or Tulipwood. We're wondering if this tree is li...

Hi all, We had an infestation of fishbone fern down one side of our house, including growing in a big boulder retaining wall. I used roundup to kill the ones in the wall, and pulled out the ones in the garden bed by hand. A photo is attached showing the current state of it all. I have two specific q...

Thanks for the help, that makes sense. Assuming all the posts lined up nicely enough and they are all well set, would this likely be strong enough for, say, a child to lean against the fence without us worrying about their safety?

Hi, I'm after some advice on building a fence along the top of a rock retaining wall on our property. We've seen fences where the uprights are attached to an 'anchor' that is concreted into the rocks, in such a way that the whole fence can be located quite close to the edge of the wall. We've had on...

I had a good look but still couldn't find any seeds, flowers or pods to help identify them. Never mind though - I had a good look at the Macaranga tanarius mentioned above and pretty confident that is the one. If they start pods / seeds etc I'll double check against the photos anyway. Thanks again e...

They look great! We planted our Murrayas about a year ago and they're going strong but not nearly as dense as that yet. Perhaps we need to trim them more often and could have planted them closer together. I was curious because we've often had the exact same curly leaves you showed in the original ph...

I'm not too sure - never noticed any seeds or pods on them. I'll have a closer look tonight and will report back. They're definitely behaving like weeds - shooting up everywhere and growing very fast.

Thanks for the help Online Gardener :) Looking at the photos and description of Omalanthus Populifolius, it seems a bit different to me though - for example the stem of the leaves attach closer to the centre in the trees we have here, whereas in the bleeding heart photos they attach at the base of t...

Hello, I was hoping somebody in the know could kindly identify this type of tree? I'm wondering if they're 'good' or 'bad', as they're popping up everywhere and seem to be crowding out the other trees and stealing the sun. Thanks for the help :) http://i948.photobucket.com/albums/ad325/cjones83/IMG_...
