Best blinds/curtains for thermal and blockout
Interior Decorating Lounge

We're getting curtains soon, after surviving winter without any window furnishings (and yes, the single glazing let a lot of cold in!). So, we're looking for blinds/curtains that look modern and have very good thermal qualities (blocking cold seepage in winter mainly), and blockout (to stop the kids...

Hi! We're building a new house and need to decide our external finishes. Our colour scheme is green, silver (zincalume), white, dark grey, and possibly some timber. The majority of our walls will be horizontal Weathertex (hardwood panels) with a wood grain, painted a mist-green colour (the colour of...

Can anyone point me in the direction of some good low VOC type paints for painting the inside of our new house? Lots of people say they're too expensive, but a friend bought 10 litres for $160 or so which seems to be a reasonable price compared to what a Mitre 10 catalogue was charging for normal pa...

Anyone know what stuff they normally seal cork floors with? And if there are eco-friendly (low-VOC) options? Ely

Hiya Ely I've just been having a fight with my builder (Goodlife Homes) about my Westinghouse 90cm stove top, the same one you have a picture of in your post. Ours is set back only 12mm from the splashback and as such you cannot put a large pan or pot centrally on either of the rear burners, and it...

Neff T2596N0AU? 17MJ wok burner ::angry:: Hmm, at $2800, I think it's a bit out of my price range! I don't do enough wok cooking to justify that. Neff do have a 6 burner with two woks T29R8N0AU for $1700, but I can't see anywhere that states the Mj each burner puts out. http://www.estrading.com.au/...

5 burner 90cm gas cooktops - which one?

I'm looking for a 5 burner 90cm gas cooktop. I would prefer the main two biggest burners furthest away from each other, but as far as I can tell only the Westinghouse and the Miele do that (with a huge difference in cost between them!). The Bosch seems like a good compromise in cost and quality, but...

Ely, my two bobs worth.... Sounds like you would really like a polished concrete surface, but are looking at cheaper options. Seems to me that you are far better spending the extra $$ up front to get a good polished finish than having any topical coatings. They all will need maintenance & refin...

Well if you want a cheap flooring there are many... but.. ::wink:: If you want a floor that is very hardwaring, easy clean, non alergenic, Eco as in reduced embedded energy(adding less refind products) Then honed concrete for about $60/sq mtr would be all those things, also, eco and enviro f...

Hi, we're looking at affordable options for finishing our concrete slab on our new house. We'll have carpet in the bedrooms and cork in the kitchen, but the rest of the areas we're still deciding. Just heard about Pandomo concrete finish ****** but I have no idea how much they would cost. I hear pol...

Aqua Nova vs greywater recycling

We are planning to build with Dixon homes, to our own passive solar design. They supply as standard the Aqua Nova blackwater recycling system, which as I understand uses chlorine to disinfect the water, which may or not fail at some stage during heavy use. The cost is apparently $6-8000, plus $300 a...
