We went through the process of building on a steep block 2years ago now..time flies...it is going to cost more, but my advice is to work with the block, the less cut and fill the better as its the retaining that will cost you big dollars, make the use of light weight materials, and building on stump...

We have a similar slope in our backyard, we have just finished landscaping, we did not build any retaining wall, we got in a bob cat and built terraces with sloped garden beds inbetween, we used the odd man handlable sandstone bolder on any area that was a little steep, and each terrace is linked wi...

We went with a small builder who only built a few homes a year. Not all custom builders are upmarket. We could not use a project builder because we had too much of a slope on our block for them to even look at it. We talked to a few smaller builders and they all varied in price. But if we ever built...

We have built on a slopping block which slopped about 6m down from the street, the best thing to do is forget all the traditional designs they dont work, work with the slope not against it, look at using light weight materials, also look at building some of the house on stumps, instead of cutting in...

Maybe look at having one large laundry and a laundry shoot, you can still have an extra linen cupboard upstairs. I put a larger laundry in our place it works well being able to have the ironing board left up, room for an indoor line, and a large bench to fold the washing on. Cheers Lou
