We built in Melbourne (south morang) in 2009 and were pretty happy with the result, built a Rowland 35 with Porter Davis. no complaints about the builder. Anyway, we have moved to the country (Euroa, north-east Victoria) for work reasons and are in the process of selling our house in Melbourne. We w...

I went to check on our houses progress today and noticed that there has been a site start on our neighbouring block. The site has been pegged out, waiting for the slab to be poured. I re-measured our block and I am concerned that several of the pegs etc for my future neighbours garage are encroachin...

I WON!!! After much debate and weeks of shopping for the best deal on a fridge, we have finally made a decision. The three nominations were the Fisher and Paykel 614L French Door Fridge, the Westinghouse 690L and the Samsung 700L The other half was initially fixed on the wider fridge space of the Fi...

I thought I would share this response I sent in a PM for some more info: This was the question: Hi Matt, I love your new fridge (Samsung SRS702GDHSS). This is my personal favourite, but my other half is keen on the French door Fisher and Paykel. Her argument is that you can't get 'big platters' in ...

Have you noticed single storey house along Hawkstowe parade (further around from us, past the 'community centre', on the opposite side of the road). It has a cream coloured roof...not sure how that got approved? Certainly doesn't fit in with the rest of the dark grey roofs. It looks AWFUL. I doubt ...

Thanks Kek, We will definitely be putting something between the soil and the fence, just wondering what will be the cheapest way to prefent the weight of the 40cm high garden bed pushing the fence over. Was going to drop in and say hi on Saturday, but we spent so long admiring our newly plastered ho...

Thanks, I have just being doing some more research on the grey concrete besser block retaining walls. It seems I must fill them with concrete which will add to the cost. I think I might consider a small, treated pine sleeper wall.

I am approaching handover of my new house and have been thinking (a lot) about my landscaping. I have a flat block, but I like the look of the Austral Linkwall-Kensington retaining walls etc. I would like to have a raised garden bed (approx 1m deep) along the back (colorbond) fenc (20m long). I was ...

Hi Kek, We are heading out there this morning......couldn't wait until the afternoon! Time permitting me will drop in and say hi! Yes, the house next to the creek looks interesting. I saw the 'red' house over near you...yuck! Have you noticed single storey house along Hawkstowe parade (further aroun...

What a difference a week makes! Last week we were complaining that seemingly 'bugger all' had happened over the previous two weeks. This week we have been receiving regular updates from our neighbour who have told us that they have really got stuck in this week. The bricking has finished, solar pane...

Hi there, I've never heard that, but TBH, I am not sure! We have a 5000ltr tank that is plumbed up to our toilets, laundry and outdoor taps. If we run out of tank water, it switches to mains water. Hope someone can give you a definite answer :) Our builder told us that tank used for flashing toilet...

I have started my build, and I am very happy with how things are going, but like others there are a few things I wished I could change, that continues to give me sleepless nights. I really wished that I had included a 'rainflush' or 'tankflush' system in my house whereby rain water harvested from th...

Short answer, if your block is in any of these streets in Hawkstowe you will have extreme difficulty getting fixed line broadband: http://www.bigshowbag.com/temp/HawksDAs.jpg There are 0 ports free in the CMUX that serves those streets. If you are in Hawkstowe East (only 5 streets currently) there ...

Hi, We are in the process of building in Hawkstowe Estate, South Morang. Met with one of our future neighbours today and they informed us that there is currently no broadband connection available for the estate. Now, I didn't specifically ask about broadband when we signed up to buy the block (I sho...

Brickies have now started work, and a couple of other new frames have popped up on our street. Now there are only a couple of vacant blocks between our place and the entrance to the estate. Can't wait to see what it looks like once everyone has finished building and landscaping. I think it will be am...

Hehe, oh well. Gives you something to do on weekends! We are probably going out to the block on Saturday to have a look, finally have a day off to go and look at it during daylight hours! Hopefully by then we will have a frame up! I know more components for the frame have been delivered today.
