Goodness me, that is pricey and I bet I'll get a WAF rating of 1/10 when I mention it at home. But for a 10 year span, that's not a bad investment. Thanks!!

Hi All, I live in an area that termites are known to inhabit - whilst I have a number of weatherboard homes around me, mine is a standard brick veneer only 3 years old. (I'm in Spotswood, Victoria) The house was termite protected on construction - to be honest I'm not sure what method was used, I as...

Go for this, it may be possible down the track to convert it to Refridgerated. I'm afraid that's pretty unlikely. Evap ducting is enormous - that method of cooling simply requires a large amount of airflow. The same size ducts won't be suitable for refrigerated cooling. What you will find is that y...

Hi Nizmo, I built with Simonds - I'm afraid it took them close to 2 years to build a home with some minor modifications. We stuck to our guns on everything and refused to pay some invoices. It got to the point where their accounts department rang and asked "Just wondering if we can send you this inv...

Hi Folks, Just wondering about anyone's experiences with insulation under tile floors? I'm looking at incorporating a few large tiled areas in my new construction and am keen to get rid of that chill underfoot. The house will be on a slab .. One idea we've had so far is to lay chipboard or something...

Hi all, I'm looking at floorboards in a new construction - I like the natural appearance of timber, so someone has suggested we go for a tung oil finish. I've heard (not seen yet) that it looks great, and has a matte finish which is what I'm looking for anyway. Just wondering what other people's exp...

.................... Often the safest option is to batten over the slab and nail the floor down as normal. A bit more work but it is a much safer bet for a conservative builda like me! Hmm.. That sounds like a great idea - but then you have a step down in every room that has carpet? Either that, or...

I'm afraid I can't tell you much in the way of specs / features / efficiency, etc.. But my partner's family run a business that specialises in heating and cooling - my father in law has recently put a Lennox unit in his home, based on the experience he's had with it. They all bore me to tears with t...

Thanks for the tip! Any idea on cost comparisons between timber / weathertex? Or insulating properites?

Hi Folks, I'm looking to build a new home in an area predominantly occupied by timber weatherboards. I'm knocking down the existing place so have complete flexibility - but would like to keep the same style as the surrounding area. I saw vinyl cladding at the home show yesterday - they tell me it's ...
