the vaulted ceiling wise for your climate? hot air will end up there Yeah it's somewhat of a trade off between what's practical and what's spectacular. The clerestory windows will be louvres or awning style windows, so should help create good cross ventilation, particularly at night, to vent any st...

Looks like the front of your block is facing the west? If so, your master bed will be like an oven in the afternoon. You'll have to blast your AC before going to bed in summer. Downstairs seems fine. You probably want to re configure your rooms upstairs. Personally I designed my master bedroom only...
Thanks for your feedback. Will the 1.2m balcony and shutters on the master help reduce the impact of the western sun? T...

Update Time We've had a fair bit of progress since December. We've got loan approval and settlement fast approaching. On the build side of things, we're 99% of the way to locking in our final design. The builder came back to us with Version 1 plans that were essentially exactly the same as what we ...

Had my garage done in epoxy ( flint stone flake over neutral grey base ) Just waiting on it to cure https://forum.homeone.com.au/u/50696_1640128672.jpeg Hot damn, that's a fresh looking garage. Any idea roughly how much it added to your cost to get the third space added on? As in how much was the t...

We got a nice little update from the developer a few days before Christmas. They've told us the majority of the earthworks are complete in preparation for bitumen to be laid. Fencing of the blocks is well underway and the first custom gate was installed (we had no idea when we bought that we were ge...

Hey mate, I've just read through your whole thread. Great job documenting it all, and really helpful for someone just starting their first build. I'm aiming to document our upcoming build here too. Wasn't sure about some of your colour selections as you went along but damn did it turn out looking go...

Hi, Great read, do you think the raked ceilings will be okay in the cooler months? How will you cross ventilate, recycle air? Low windows, high windows, sliding windows, fly screens Thanks Pedro. I guess the ceilings will create a larger air volume that will in turn require more energy to heat it. ...

for best passive design in a sometimes cold wet climate i suggest that you include more doorways to zone separate areas of the house, include some east and west windows for late afternoon and early morning sunshine and i've included a few ideas for consideration https://forum.homeone.com.au/u/96667...
Wow, thanks so much for taking the time to draw that up! There's certainly some very well considered ideas there. Parti...

OP, good effort on picking up sketch-up tool! it's a great software to build a free walk-through model of your house while being able to play around with the lighting 365 days / 24 hours a day! With furniture placement really gives you good sense for scale of things without needing to fork out $3k~...

You might consider hydronic in slab heating driven by a heat pump. Effectively silent, supplemented by your thermal mass it will transfer heat to your southern rooms, and on a timer to make the most of your solar and/or off peak electricity That's something we looked at very closely before I went d...

Hi all, I've been looking for a place to document our upcoming build where I can get some good feedback and discussion happening with likeminded people, and given how much I've been looking at these forums over the last 12 months for advice, it seemed right to do it here. Our story is this: The loca...
