Adding Style/Feature to buildBuilding A New House

We are building our first and hopefully last home. Looking for some way to make the living/dining/kitchen area pop. Thinking skylights/cathedral ceiling/3m ceiling height in that area. Open to any other suggestions? Price is a factor so open to the simple things.
