Just wondering if anyone had used or knows a good floor sander in eastern suburbs Melbourne. We are leaning towards sanding and polishing our timber floor. Thanks.

Our timber floor planks are narrow and might give an older feel and makes the area look smaller probably.

There is a far better way to achieve the look you are after with the Spotted Gum or any other timber for that matter. Bleach it. Here is a photo of a Spotted Gum floor we did. https://forum.homeone.com.au/u/100357_1614036049.jpg It looks very nice indeed. I’ve come across something like this watchi...

I’m thinking of laying a new laminate flooring over the existing hardwood floor Nooooo dont do it! But seriously, are the hardwood floors not salvageable with a sanding? Hardwood looks better, feels better, is usually tougher and worth maybe 5 times more than laminate. I haven’t asked the floor san...

I noticed yesterday when it was moderately raining that our neighbour’s front garden bed’s draining hole was letting the water out under their front retaining wall - we don’t have this hole as ours is just old rocks with spaces among them and the grass and soil are on top of it. The water coming out...

This would depend on whether the sub floor dampness causes moisture issues within the house and structure. Probably worth monitoring, particularly after heavy rain. Thanks for the information again. I will get that humidity measuring device tomorrow and monitor regularly. But just for information w...

Looking at the photos of ground around concrete stumps with dampness, would some sort of underground drainage be needed?

Something basic like this can DIY check humidity: https://www.jaycar.com.au/jumbo-display-thermometer-hygrometer/p/QM7312 Thanks for that Kippers, I’ll definitely get one of those. I wonder how long the water would seep through those cracks on driveway though as it seems to be there almost everyday...

Hi, I’m thinking of laying a new laminate flooring over the existing hardwood floor and wanted to ask if there is a huge difference in the quality of products between Quick Step/Kronotex and cheaper brands ($20-$25/sqm products). Also, would you recommend using an independent layer or a layer from t...

Water will drain downhill through the top layers of the soil, particularly if there is a layer of rock close to the surface. Without specific drainage measures the water will collect and come to surface where it can. If there is continued wetness in your subfloor this can cause high humidity levels...

Hi, my house is sloped 1.8m to the back and 1.36m to the right and I guess that the water collected in the ground would travel down to our property from our next door neighbour. Backyard itself is relatively flat and there is a big concrete retaining wall to the side of the house. I’ve never owned a...
