Sure there are some bigger and smaller examples but I wouldn't go out to buy a free standing stove because they are bigger. Personally I am not a fan of the small gaps and the grime that you get with a free standing stove. Easy to replace when needed without having to refit into cabinetry. That includes the stovetop too which will also be built in. Having to replace those items in our old kitchen was such a drama. Trying to find something that fitted the exact measurements to avoid an expensive fit out cost was extremely difficult. Finding one that also had the brand, functions and price you wanted in the right measurements ... impossible. majestic35.weebly.com Re: Difference between freestanding 90cm oven and built in 9 4Mar 22, 2017 9:17 am A 600 or 900mm built in oven is almost always 596mm high by the cabinet width. Retro fitting a new one is actually very easy if you stay with the standard sizes. Sure if you buy an oven with a non standard height then yes it will be hard but do let this be a reason for buying free standing. The best part of buying separate built in appliances is that your not limited to one brand and size. I have plenty of customers that have put in 600mm ovens with 700mm cooktops. You can mix and match brands and also gas or electricity. It gives you options. Inbuilt 90L FS 110L for one I checked. Thanks! Great ideaI might have to go in with my baking trays and see how many i can get in each one Difference between freestanding 90cm oven and built in 90cm 8Mar 22, 2017 9:41 pm It's interesting everyone has a preference I personally don't like free standing ovens and cooktop being together simply because if the salt or food scraps fall in between your stone and your kitchen bench are you going to pull the stove every time? I asked a close mate of mine recently who has one and he said he's moved in for 7 years but hasn't pulled it out once. I can't even begin to imagine the dirt or dead cockroaches underneath. That's why although my package comes with a free standing stove and oven I decided to split it. As well as that there are no gaps and is easy to clean and there is a kick board so I can't accidentally kick food on the ground underneath the free standing oven and cooktop. I rather have a low maintenance home where I can spend time with kids and family. But as I said everyone has a personal preference and I can certainly respect that. How often do I replace my cooktop or oven? I haven't had to as yet. But when the time comes sure will do it when I cross that bridge. We'll be going separate this time. In terms of capacity, it really depends on the make rather than built in vs freestanding. Re: Difference between freestanding 90cm oven and built in 9 11Apr 06, 2017 12:37 pm As was mentioned, capacity seems to be determined on individual make/model more than type. We had a freestanding 900mm stove in our last house. The gap on each side was minimal and I didn't have any issues with food going down. We also had the kickboard run across the bottom, so the legs were taken off and the whole thing sat on the base of the cabinets, which stopped anything getting under it (unlike the rental we are currently in). If you go freestanding make sure it will sit on the baseboard of the cabinets, not on the floor. FWIW, our next place will have built ins mainly because I'm wanting an induction cooktop and like the seamless look. I have seen and done many like this, you should see the grime and gunk that builds up ontop of the kickboard after ten years! Although I haven't seen it first hand. Have you seen this done and is it viable/worthwhile?
