Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 26, 2013 11:53 am Our ceilings are 2.7 m (3m in the entrance hall) and the dropped bulkheads (to define the two passageways from the entrance hall and also to help define the open sitting room) are marked at 2.28m which seemes quite low to me!! It will in fact be lower than our door architraves etc which are at 2340... Is this normal/alright? I just worry it will look a bit weird with the high ceilings and perhaps they should match the height of the doors at least? Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085 Re: Bulkhead height? Lower than door height?? 3Aug 26, 2013 9:03 pm No, I wasn't sure what's normal... do they normally go up with ceiling height?? :s There must be some kind of "normal" surely?? Haha. I should go and have a look around a whole bunch of display houses but I don't really have time for that!! :s They'll definitely have to be higher than 2280 though..... Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085 Re: Bulkhead height? Lower than door height?? 7Aug 27, 2013 4:03 pm I just noticed you are building with Plantation. My last build was with Henley and it had 2700 ceilings too. I just checked the old plans and the bulkheads between rooms are written as "280 below ceiling". The bulkhead above the kitchen cupboards is 2280. I figure they've just mixed your bulkheads up and put kitchen height ones everywhere. Re: Bulkhead height? Lower than door height?? 8Aug 27, 2013 4:11 pm That's so helpful, thanks so much Ari! Don't suppose you have any pictures of those bulkheads from your old house?? Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085 Re: Bulkhead height? Lower than door height?? 10Aug 27, 2013 7:57 pm Our bulkhead is 300mm lower than our raised roof in the entrance. So basically, raised area is 2.9m and the bulkhead drops to 2.6m. Our doors are 2340mm. Lower than door height?? 12Aug 27, 2013 8:14 pm It may be a little hard to visualise but the bulkhead drops to 2.6 and then that forms the rest of the ceiling height as it continues throughout the hallway in to the rest of the house Custom European Cabinets - Melbourne Kitchen Specialist PM for business details as website currently being updated! Our Crazy Owner Builder Journey! Re: Bulkhead height? Lower than door height?? 13Sep 05, 2013 8:43 pm Just updating this thread with a resolution. Looks like Ari's 280 below ceiling guideline is about right. So our ceilings are at 2720 and our bulkheads will now be at 2440. Thus makes them a few centimetres above the door frame which seems to be right on various other houses we've seen. I'm happy we picked this up because it would have looked really weird the way they had it originally!! Thanks everyone for your help.
