Her house was almost ready and she was looking forward to living in Cranbourne. After class, I asked her about it and that day I went to visit the display at Casiana. I didn't see her again until last week, but she left before I could say anything. I saw her today and reintroduced myself, asked her how the build went with a year's worth of retrospect. THE GOOD NEWS: She was thrilled with the quality of the build. She had an inspector for the final stage and he could barely fault the build. Paint touch-ups here and there. Barely anything. THE BAD NEWS: The day after her appliances and hot water system were installed (but before she moved in) she was broken into. They got in by breaking the laundry room glass in the door and let themselves in. They stole her oven, which was an upgrade to a gas/electric oven. She said the police told her it was most likely the tradies, especially seeing how the oven was perfectly disconnected. You wouldn't have those tools unless you knew what you were coming in to get. The police then arranged a neighbourhood get-together. It ends up that all of her neighbours had been broken into within the first few weeks of moving in. I didn't catch which estate she was in, but I don't think it matters. I would think it would be rampant in new estates. SO! What are the solutions? So far, I'm thinking of getting exterior lights that have motion detectors. Also, I would like a surveillance system that operates on WIFI. And that's BEFORE I get anything installed after handover. What else? Can we have it installed the day we move in? That's horrible!!!
