I'm amazed that developers are able to sign deals giving exclusive ISP to a single company - that is so anti-competitive. People often sign up and buy their land before they think to check this and are locked in to excessively expensive providers. (Some have even been persuaded by the salespeople that this is good - I can't work out why!) We were lucky and have avoided this by sheer luck. I did not think that this would be legal so I did not think to check it.

lI don't think Max was saying that the developer was locking him in. It was just that the ISPs weren't providing service to his area. Sounds like he needs a closer exchange. Most country people have the same problem.
At least telstra are providing wireless, most other telco's only have service within the city limits
