Saw this on the Herald Sun today (this with regards to unlocking the use of funds for scrapped the East West link. Federal Infrastructure and Transport Minister Darren Chester said the Commonwealth also agreed to the State Government’s request to include the O’Herns Rd interchange project in Whittlesea. Unfortunately I don't think this is as good for Epping/Wollert residents as they might think. The Hume already backs up at the junctions with the Ring Road and Cooper St, and the merging and exiting traffic between Sydney Rd and Hume exits on the Ring Rd shows exactly what's going to happen when they put another entry point so close to Cooper St. I believe the wholesale market is responsible for a huge amount of traffic delays currently (why would you build this where there is no rail link?) and the extra traffic from the new northern corridor Estates is only going to make things worse. While there is the odd truck during morning peak it won't have impacted the Cooper Street on-ramp that much. The main problem is the sheer increase in population in Epping and further North (Wollert, Craigieburn, Mernda etc) and no infastructure to handle it. I've been living in Lyndarum estate for nearly 5 months now (used bike, car and on several occasion 357 bus), the traffic is horrible in Miller and Findon/Epping bec of sheer number of vehicles with only 2 exit points in Epping North/Wollert area. Unless you go to Craigieburn East road which is also a gridlock due to road works and more estates coming up and a bit further. Be happy for the funding we have right now, a lot of people are hoping on this. As for the Northern rail project (expect 10 to 20 years for it to materialised), they'll do the Mernda first then extend to Doreen before they extend the Northern rail line to Epping North. If you Signalised Findon/Epping road, extend Edgars road and have the O'herns Interchange then it gives us time to wait for the extension of northern rail project. --------------------------------------------- Building a St. Tropez 25 - Boutique Homes Aurora Estate Wollert - Victoria The setback from the kerb is 4m.
