Can this really be an acceptable installation of the gas and electricity connections for a stove and oven?

Leaving aside the difficulty of removing the plugs, it's impossible to access the insert for this surge arresting power point (the bit with the red dot in the middle).

I'll have to get the kitchen installation company to fix it, but why do tradesmen do this?

I think the plumbing over the power points is disgusting. If you (or an electrician) want to work on the electricals, it's not enough to just switch off the power at the power point. You want to unplug the appliance so you're certain it is isolated. What they've done is absolutely disgusting (and unsafe).

Why do they do it? Because they want to get in and out as quick as possible. They don't really care about the overall practicality.

Get them to fix it!

Mind you here the word “tradesman” is able to be used very loosely!!

I don't think it's so much laziness...more a lack of pride and a good case of "couldn't care less"

I would say that the Building cide would certainly have something to regulate this. As soon as I get my ordered copy, I'll research your issue and let you know if I find anything.

In the interrim, I know the is a standard that prevents power points and telephone points being side by side, so one can only assume this would be the case when you are talking about power an gas...

What if you experienced a gas leak. You are know faced with having to turn your power off at the mains.

Looking at a "what if"...say for example you get a gas leak....and you switch the swicth to off and you get a flashspark at the swicth on the powerpoint......mmmmm

I agree with others re just don't think....I would say its a case just don't care....

I hope you succeed in gettying the plumber to rectify his work.

I know this is off topic, but I didn't think there would be a problem with powerpoints and phone pointes being next to each other... what about the entertainment boards that have say 6 powerpoints and 2 data points (phone jacks)?

The builder should have picked this up and got the plumber to redo those connections. Or did you employ the plumber your self or through a kitchen company?

If they won't fix it then you have a clear complaint to the regulators. In Victoria it is the Plumbing Industry Commission at this link: http://www.pic.vic.gov.au/www/html/7-home-page.asp

Not sure what state you are in but it will be a similar story in every state.

This is a safety issue and you must get it attended to ASAP.
