Cheers Heath Re: Modified Camden supplied by PAAL homes 124Mar 16, 2012 5:43 am Yes, the front veranda/portico WOULD have been a real pain for us.....that's why we paid a carpenter to stand it (He got it done in one day and I could see weeks of work there for us!!). We did the 2 side verandas as they were pretty straightforward.......Boy, I wouldn't want to be attempting your extensive veranda - you deserve a bloody medal!!!! Cheers Heath Re: Modified Camden supplied by PAAL homes 126Apr 16, 2012 7:25 am Wow ! No wonder you've been quiet lately. It's looking great . So much work !!!! Are you having the portico bit ? I can't make it out on the photos.....it turned out to be a fair bit of extra work for us (My fault entirely ) We decided once the verandah frame was done to line the portico in the triangle shape that it made - not straight across inline with the rest of the veranda. This is the only photo I have of it, you can't really see how my husband has put the battens ready for lining. I think we'll be using blueboard instead of the fibro on the front verandah so the plasterers can set the different angles neater - that's the only change we made to our verandas. (I'll take a propper picture when I go out there next) ......it just seems to add some extra height over the front door area. I'm 6 foot tall and felt a bit too close to the ceiling lining when the frames went up and suggested the change to my husband - who grumbled and had to spend a fair bit of time when it came to the battens ) I can't wait to see the next stage !!! Best of luck ! Cheers Heath Re: Modified Camden supplied by PAAL homes 128Apr 17, 2012 6:56 am Hi Heath, It makes sense not to have the top gutters seeing as though you've got the veranda going the whole way round. The alfresco area sound challenging. I breathed a sigh of relief when our downpipes were connected and we could move onto something else, but we still have to install the spreaders onto the verandas.....hhmmmmm, why didn't we think of ditching the gutters in those spots ?? LOL - you won't need a ladder to clean the gutters of leaves at 6'5" !!! Lynny, we didn't put our spreaders on til AFTER we moved in...still to organise final approval, got a nasty gram from council to get it sorted. Isn't it funny how with a few slight changes and some different materials our two houses look so different - individual You'll have a great place to relax on those verandas once you move in.....sipping an ice cold beer maybe ?? I spent a lot of time climbing around our trusses but didn't acutally get up when the roofing was getting done.....looking down always got me a little nervous. It's looking great. Your perserverance and hard work are truly awesome....looking forward to more updates and pictures. Lyndall Owner Building on 1800sqm Sanity Intact so far Locked up March 2012 Re: Modified Camden supplied by PAAL homes 134Sep 23, 2012 1:22 am Well not much has progressed so far apart from fitting internal door frames and a little bit of gyrocking heading out tomorrow for another week so I will have some new photos to upload soon, the WA rep for PAAL homes has been using our semi completed house a sort of display home for future owner builders and there has been some interest and some been scared off in what's involved in building kit homes well at least they were honest ! Cheers Heath Re: Modified Camden supplied by PAAL homes 135Jan 06, 2013 3:05 pm Hi all, it's been a while since I last updated so I thorght I let you know how things are progressing we have spent the last couple of months doing the the gyprock I must admit I really don't like this job but we are progressing with both the kids and parents wing of the house completed well the walls anyway still have to do the centre room and then the roof isulation and gyrock I have had the sparky come in and wire just about everything with just a few more circuits to go but he will come back when we get closer to finishing the rest of the gyprock, I had to stop work on the house as Christmas arrived and well havent actually started back on the house as yet I am currently working in my shed to make it livable for DW and the three DD's as the eldest starts school just around the corner from here next month and the DW was not happy about having to travel from where we are currently living so she give me an earfull about not being able to live in the shed so I have spent one weekend with my dad cleaning and sorting out both sheds to make some room for two bedrooms and some more living room space as well still need to install airconditioner and a small hot water system a better shower (still using camping shower) but they will have to live with the outside chemical toilet as I have no septic system yet still wating on the earth mover to come in and put that in I have some pics somewhere I will post them once I get back home as I am back at work trying to fill up the piggy bank. Cheers Heath Re: Modified Camden supplied by PAAL homes 136Feb 26, 2013 3:00 pm Good luck with the gyprocking job. We really appreciated the work that builders do after completing our PAAL kit home 12 years ago. We did everything thing ourselves except for the electrical, plumbing and kitchen cabinets. My husband got temporary RSI from putting in all those rivets and screws. He and I put the frame up quickly but then it took a few weeks to finish off adding all the rivets etc which was disheartening as it looks like you've done nothing for a month. Your home is very big compared to ours which was just 137 square metres. Couldn't even begin to think about building a home that large! We sold and bought an older home and have revamped it and renovated it. It is less of a headache to build than to renovate as you keep having to deal with lots of unexpected issues that you don't have to deal with when building from scratch. Our build was relatively trouble free and I nearly got a migraine just reading some of the trials you have had especially in the beginning. We had more troubles with the combustion heater supplier than anything else. Gave us the wrong heater, then when we finally got the right heater, they didn't deliver a long enough flue and shield even AFTER we stressed the fact it was a 9 ft ceiling. At the time we only had the kid's bedrooms completed and the gyprock had no cornice and it was the coldest winter the locals could remember. So we froze our butts off for 6 weeks before we could finish the heater installation. The supplier didn't give a damn. It really ticked them off that we weren't happy even thought they stuffed up twice. Needless to say we told EVERYONE and never ever bought anything of them ever again. Oh and don't lift the heater. Let the supplier do it because it can give you a hernia and hernia's never really ever mend properly. But, we were always happy with the result of the build and the quality. Look forward to hearing about more of your progress. Re: Modified Camden supplied by PAAL homes 137Mar 29, 2013 12:12 pm Hello Everyone, It's been a while since my last post so just another update on the going ons, well I haven't done anything on the house for the last two months as I have been busy doing not alot, seem to have lost interst in building, but all is good I had the earth mover come in beginning of the week to dig and put in the septic system he also dug a few trenches and leveled an area for the kids to play on I haven't seen it yet as I am away again working so will have to wait till next week when I get home to see what he has done then I aslo need to get the health inspector in to make sure the council is happy with it, now my dad has been busy working on the house as the parents and kids wing wall are all up he has gone and flushed the lot all sanded ready for sealing but when i get back we will attempt to start the ceilings we have bought a gyprock lifter and a small wheeled scaffolding so hopefully it won't be to tiring on the neck but before that I need to put all of the roof batts in first and a bitt more wiring to do as well. Hi AussieHarmony, We have a super heavy wood combustion heater to go in the house it wasy in at about 250kg still not to sure of how we are going to get it in the house as it will need to be lifted about 1.2m then moved into the house by hand maybe me and a few burly mates Bahahaha I'm the biggest of the lot but that's a while away yet so can think about this one. Cheers Heath Re: Modified Camden supplied by PAAL homes 138Aug 27, 2013 3:03 pm Hi all,
Been a while since I posted so just a little one to let you know of whats been happening, so we have been doing the gyrock for quite a while now and still have a bit to do but there is light at the end of the tunnel with just the main living room ceiling to go but this is aslo the biggest room in the whole hose about 72 sqm not looking forward to it, so now some pics.
