wow you have done a massive job and it looks great! what turf did you get? whats your lighting going to be like?

Thanks :)

The turf that i will be getting is Empire Zoysia.

As for the lighting, i will be lighting up the cycas which will be the feature plants (planted at each end of the planter box), also i will have 3 flowering plum trees that will each be lit up, the letter bos will be uplit and there is a waterbowl in a garden bed that will get lit up (it will have an agave and some other small fill plants in it).

Good choice Wrexter...Empire Zoysia is great...We have had it for 4.5 years and in summer only needs mowing every 2-3 weeks. Has a lovely fine green leaf and doesn't thatch up to the extent of buffalo and the biggest pluls is that it does not invade neighbouring garden beds!

I have some 2m variegated Yukkas for sale in pots if you are interested they make a great architectural feature..Also good along a fenceline to keep out intruders as they are quite hurty if you get prodded by a frond!! lol Also some 2.2 metre ones that I have yet to cut down...

Update time!
- Planterbox and letterbox painted
- Retic system finished
- Turf Layed
- Garden lighting system installed

All that is left now is to select which plants i want to place in the planter box and garden beds. I will post up my current plant selections soon and feedback would be great! Cant wait to get the plants in there test the garden lighting system!

[ img ]
Mixing the soil with the rotary hoe (I threw on some extra brickies sand to increase soil levels, the rotary hoe was a fantastic machine, made the job soooo much easier!

[ img ]
All mixed

[ img ]
Laying the retic, getting it under the driveway was a PITA!

[ img ]
All levelled and ready to lay turf

[ img ]
Turf on verge down! Laying turf was suprisingly easy, its the prep that takes a looooong time!

[ img ]
All done

[ img ]
There will be 3 300x600 granite pavers behind the letterbox surrounded by white pebbles.

Gonna go and get some mollasses onto the turf now!

Looks amazing!!! I wish we could do that...but just not that talented! :)
We will attempt a letterbox and a small planter...and then landscaper can finish it off! :)

Awesome progress there mate! I thought about and was going to attempt the back garden bed myself (just laying one course of bricks to match the house) but decided to hire a pro who did it properly and quickly as I have no experience and couldn't be bothered wasting my precious R&R time home from work. Was definitely worth the $350 it costed too.

What plants are you looking at using mate?

Heya

Could you PM me the name of the person who did the planter box as well? Was the $700 just the rendering, or building it as well?

Your whole front yard looks amazing - I'm so jealous.

I'm with the previous poster who asked if you're available to hire? hahah :P

Hiya Wrexter, Awesome stuff mate - truly inspiring....
Any updates? I'm keen on turf info as I'm about to replace my buffalo for some zoysia(empire/empress) I'm in Harvest Lakes - so I could swap a beer or 2 for some knowledge ;)
Also If anyone else could provide info re- fu's soil tip. (where is he?)I'm ripping out existing Sir Walter and am wondering how much old soil to take out (I'm sure Landscapes Aus only put in 100mm of poor quality top soil) for the install of the piggy/bentonite combo. I initially thought of taking out 300mm, but now thinking that might be over the top...not to mention very exspensive to replace with the piggy. It's roughly 80sqm. Any info is greatly appreciated, love all the threads and have spent a week going thru most of them!

Hey all,

Apologies for the lack of updates, everything has been so hectic, almost there in terms of finishing the landscape, I CAN SEE THE LIGHT!!!!!!

I have some plants in now, the rest will be in within the next month, very happy with everything so far, some things i could of done differently but its all a learning curve and im much more experience now when i do the backyard. Here are some update photos, will get complete photos up when its all done.

I will post up my plant selections soon for feedback and comment.

It looks gorgeous! Where did you get your cycad from and how much, if you dont mind me asking. I'm looking at palms galore.

Also, as per previous question from another poster...how much for your planter to be bricked and rendeted? Could you pm me with details? We were going to attempt our own, on a smaller scale to yours...but yours looks amazing and probably is worth the money for a professional job!

In love with your front yard! :)
