Reminds me, I must book a pedicure soon - that picture is scarily close to reality
Kiwi, I did get a beautiful wall hung vanity with drawers in the ensuite and am really pleased with that - think there's a picture a couple of pages back. It's just for some reason the bathroom changed. I remember a conversation about how the unit might be too narrow and therefore not enough storage. I so wish I hadn't changed because now we've got an annoying little gap between the unit and the shower which would have been so much easier to clean with wall hung. Bet the only time I go in the bathroom will be to clean so there will be double cursing about (a) the look and (b) the annoyance.

To take my mind off my horrible bathroom cabinet.....
After a couple of quick discussions last week, I started work for our builder today! I'm a Hostess in their show home for 2 to 3 days a week. So even when our home is finished I will still be able to talk about building endlessly and to people who are interested (as opposed to all our friends and family who are now a bit bored with the whole subject )

A couple of photo updates showing the tiling progress. Unfortunately I haven't been to the house for a few days because I'm working in my new job - as a hostess in our builder's show home
So I've had to rely on hubby and he hasn't taken many photos . The only work for the last few days has been tiling. We're using the builder's tiler to do the main areas but paying him directly. Really pleased with the quality of his work
Kitchen / Dining / Living area is nearly tiled. Not yet grouted but love how you can hardly see the gaps. [ img ]
Shower in Main bathroom - not quite finished [ img ]
Bath in main bathroom - also not quite finished [ img ]
No photos of the ensuite tiling yet. Hope to get some tomorrow or Tuesday.

Hi Kiwi, No, hadn't ever thought of that / had it suggested. I don't care (don't like baths much) and hubby has more cool baths in the year than he does warm baths so think it would be a bit of a waste. No Kidlets to worry about either.
Purple bath is still in main bedroom but hoping it will be installed on Tuesday. They've recessed the offending pipe into the slab and reapplied the termimesh so all should be ok now.

Wow, just read your thread (where have I been???? how did I miss this??) your house has come up so fast! Love your feature light in the entry. Another fan of skillion roofing here. Your basins in your selections picture I didn't think much of, but seeing them on your vanity in situ they really look fabulous ! Great choices you have made all round. I lack the vision of seeing the completed picture, so am a bit worried about how mine will turn out (especially after seeing your basins and my change of opinion there). Your tiles are coming up really well, looking forward to seeing more of your kitchen..
Well done on your new job too, bound to be great fun

are you putting batts in your bath surround to keep it warmer?
Hm, I had never thought of this either. The Japanese have lovely baths that stay warm (and need lids that roll back to cover the baths too). kiwi, did you do this for your bath? (oh, unless you were joking? oh dear... I never know what to believe these days! )

T what is this with you and Japanese baths? Don't get the difference - whatever the style, it's all about laying in a pool of water that gradually gets cold and scummy!!
Greenfish, thank you so much. Yes it's such a gamble at times not knowing whether your ideas will work and whether things will look like you hoped. There are one or two choices we've made that I'm disappointed about (particularly the main bathroom cabinet). Hoping that some clever room dressing will improve the look. But overall things have come out how I hoped - so far anyway.

ha ha, I lived in Japan for 4 years and seriously love their baths. Oh, in case you didn't know, Japanese people don't use soap or bathe in the bath. They shower with soap and get clean, then the bath is used as a steaming hot tub to just relax in. I don't soap up in the bath either, so it doesn't get scummy! But I do lament it gets cold (Japanese baths stay hot for hours, there are heater rods or something or rather in the bath shell, and the whole family use the same bath water).

I thought the same thing when I first went there, but it isn't at all. Remember - everybody cleans their body thoroughly (and I mean thoroughly, Japanese have lots of awesome scrub stuff and wire cloths that people use in the bathroom) before they get in. It takes an hour to run a bath (and then to keep it warm), so if you had fresh water each time 1. you wouldn't have time for the whole family to bath and 2. you would waste sooo much water and electricity. In some more traditional families there is an order of entering the bath - first is the foreign visitor (which was me), then the dad (or reversed in really traditional families, or families where I was more like family than a visitor), then the older kids (often sons first), down the line etc. Mum at the end. Anyway, it works fine and most importantly, Japanese baths are like no other bath experience anywhere in the world that I have experienced (except maybe Turkey, but that is slightly different again, and Japanese baths still top it off for me).

t , No wonder you loved it..you were first! Poor mum. She was the one probably running the bath and then cleaning it at the end and she gets everyone's water. Nice.
Yes we put some left over batts around the bath. Heck, why not. Saves throwing them out. I am shocked in all your reading, and love of baths, you hadn't thought of that yourself. Makes sense...
