Just wondering if anyone knows which government department governs demolition company licences? Is it the Dept of Fair Trading?

I was looking on the Dept of Fair Trading website and I could only see ways to check building licences.

We had a terrible experience with our demolition company who caused significant damage to a Council storm water pipe on our property (story on my thread, don't want to repeat the horror here). Cut a long story short, we are trying to recover the repair money from the company and I am wondering which Dept governs them? (All sorts of problems with this company, including false asbestos dockets and false insurance documents).

Any help would be great!

Hi SunshineT

I found this article on the web:

http://www.licensinglinenews.com/Newsletter/Edition-58-July-2008/Changes-to-demolition-licensing-in-NSW.aspx

Sounds like it use to be the Office of Fair Trading but now WorkCover are the ones who issue licenses for demolition?

Hope this helps!

thank you buildingbee!!! extremely useful. I would have looked like a right dill threatening to report them to the Dept Fair Trading, seeing now that Work Cover governs them... Thank you! How are you going with your building plans (or they were more still intentions, weren't they)?

Haha - I think most of us would have assumed the Department of Fair Trading - I learnt something as well :D

Building plans are going very slowly - we are dawdling a bit ... so many decisions! ::wornout::
