Well while our plans have been in council (still waiting) we have completed all our appointments except tiles and carpet which is next week.

In the meantime we have had a rethink about our kitchen colours as what we had selected did not look quite right and some H1 members have been very helpful with other colour suggestions.

After looking at many many different combinations of cupboard colours and caesarstone, we narrowed down the selection to 2 colour combinations to consider:

Selection 1:
Polyurethane cupboard - Paperbark
Caesarstone - Osprey
Glass splashback - Antique white

Selection 2:
Polyurethane cupboard - Moss Grey Satin
Caesarstone - Organic white or Osprey
Glass splashback - Antique white or Brilliant white

Attached is a photo of the cupboard and casearstone selections. The top caesarstone is Organic White, the bottom one Osprey. Paperbark is on the left, Moss grey on the right.

[ img ]

So what do you think, do these colours work? Or do I go back to the standard white kitchen? DH does not want all white, so if we do white cupboards, we then need to look for a coloured caesarstone (not too dark). Or do we stick with cafe cream and just change the caesarstone and splashback. Oh, we need to also decide on either gloss or satin finish. Decisions, decisions.......

I have been spending hours and hours looking at kitchen photo's and colour samples to the point I am now very very confused and totally over it :? :? . We have to make a decision soon, so hopefully we can make up our minds or someone can point me in the right direction.

I think another visit to the display homes might be on the agenda tomorrow.......I might be better inspired.

Great choice of colors, onewheel!

If me, I'll choose Organic white & moss grey satin.

Too much dots for Osprey...

Thanks Willcres.....I love the Organic white too (a friend just moved into her house and they have it...it looks really nice) but the Osprey looks good with Moss Grey too. At a W display home at Oran Park they have the Moss Grey in one of their kitchens, it looks lovely, I really liked it. Took a couple of photos

[ img ]
[ img ]

But then at one of the W Gregory Hills display homes, they have a lovely Timber veneer with an off white benchtop that we liked as well.

So from not being sure what colour to chose, we now like 2 completely different kitchen colour schemes. We are selecting our tiles/ carpet this week, the last appointment we have to do, so really want to decide once and for all so we can pick tiles that also suit the kitchen colour scheme. We just got our kitchen plans so holding off on signing these off til we decide. So now we have more to think about......

They are both are nice, great colors.
Depend on your tiles forain floor & carpet.

We decided the kitchen first and chouse neutral/safe color.
I think I like The oran park one, it will last longer and you just add a bold furniture.
Good luck.

I like the first, the dark timber will date and hard to accessorise . The light one you can put orange with it, or red or whatever you fancy re t towels or art.

I don't think you will regret the first one..

I have dark!!! But not cupboards...only bench and sides of breakfast bar. But only cos I did laminate. If I could I would have gone light stone...

Yay!! :z: kiwi & I have the same taste...

Dark color will be boring in 3-5 yrs time I think... :th:
But I have burnished wood too for laundry & bathroom vanities.... ::hyst:: hope I won't regret it.....

Thankyou all for your feedback....it has helped a lot. I've been rather stressed about it but feel better now we have two to chose from.

We are also leaning towards the first one too......so happy we have finally a good idea of which way to go. I find it difficult to imagine a kitchen by just a small colour sample, I really need to see it in a kitchen.

So now just need to decide on caesarstone, so far we like organic white or osprey. I think the splashback is in antique white.

Yes, I was thinking with the first kitchen I could accessorize with a colour scheme and could easily change that over the years depending on what is in fashion.

I'm sure the burnished wood will look great as it only takes up a small section of the laundry & bathroom and will be a lovely feature. What wall tiles are you going with?

Any thing we should consider when selecting tiles & carpet?

OK Well I am going against the grain here, we will be having burnished wood and white poly in our kitchen and burnished wood in 2 of the bathrooms and laundry, with Luna White stone
In my old house we renovated our kitchen 12 years ago in a timber laminate and black granite, with glass doors etc, looked fantastic when we sold twelve years later. Most houses need renovating before something really goes out of fashion, most people renovate after 10-12 years.

I think go for your gut, everyone has different tastes and I would never do a white kitchen, just me I guess, I like some contrast and features.
Personally I think the grey is very soft and therefore would need a darker floor or timber as contrast, although they say cupboards and splashback should match and floor and benchtop should match :th:
Just my opinion, which we all love to give on here

I have burnished wood in my kitchen!!

but dont follow us (well, follow gogo, cos she has good taste)
but she has shiny burnished wood..HOWEVER it is not in yet. so we will see....
mine is matt.

I just think the light colour will be easy to live with forever.

I agree.... :z:

Our house now is 11 yrs old and it has creamy light color everywhere (wall kitchen, moroka facade, benchtop, etc) and everyone come here still said the house looks like new... ::lol::
We haven't done any renovation at all.

But like kiwi said, gogo has good taste, so : Yes!! :: ::

You all have good taste......can't wait to see all of your kitchen photos when they go in (please make sure you share with us).

Gogo & kiwi, your kitchens will look fantastic with the burnished wood, I love those kitchens too, that is why it is so hard to decide!! I love both the wood grain kitchen and the moss grey kitchen......we just need to decide which one we love the most (it's like saying which child you love more, lol! Love both just as much but love their individuality too).

We built 15 years ago and got a tassie oak kitchen.....looked great at the time and still looks good, but on closer inspection the doors near the cooking and sink area are looking "tired" and the groves in the design have collected dust, dirt etc that we can't remove. So if we did a "timber" look again, would definately do the laminate one's which these days looks fantastic and looks easier to keep clean.

I think we will go with the Moss Grey kitchen.....really like it because it is a bit different from what we have seen, plus love the soft look of the grey.

Thankgoodness I decided to change our original colours. And thankgoodness to you all for providing me some very sound advice - Thankyou!!

Now just carpet and tile selection to go and we are done with chosing everything!

My kitchen went in a year ago...I'm a saddo that still hangs around annoying everyone!
So I have lived with the dark bench and white cupboards for a year and I love it...but like I said..I would have picked your light choice if I could afford a stone top.
Laminate white tops look cheap I recon.. Mine are 100 mm thick. So you would see the joins with a light laminate etc. yours will look Fantadtic in that grey. Well done

Hi Onewheel,

Have a look at the single storey provincial home opposite WH display at Kellyville. This kitchen looks very similar to your moss grey. I would choose that over dark as i too would be worried about it dating.

Oh Mclaren, don't worry about it, it's just my free opinion. ::wornout::
If you look at Metriiicon website, almost all their kitchen display use dark colors.
It depends on the furnitures, lights, how you maintain it too.
So don't worry... ::lol::

Happy you are still hanging around.....you can help us newbies struggling with kitchen colours and the rest, lol. If your kitchen photo's are on the kitchen corner forum I have probably seen them........spent hours on Sat night trying to see what everyone else's kitchens were like for inspiration.

You can always change the benchtop to caesarstone later. My parents gave their 1960's kitchen a "facelift" in which they kept the cabinetary but just changed the doors and added a stone benchtop.....it looked great and as they are retired, it was an affordable way to get it done!

Don't worry, I've see heaps of display homes with the dark, especially M'tcon, which we like too......I'd say it won't get boring for quite a while yet.

I am sure in 15-20 years time, all our kitchen's will be looking "tired" and that is when we will give them a makeover. Happens with most things I guess - or we'll leave it and in 30+ years time they be "retro", lol!
