Stormy I LOVE them!

I was in a store once that had some beautiful butterfly art, and while they assured me the butterflies had lived long happy lives, died a natural and peaceful death etc.. it still made me so sad to look at them.

Your pictures are so much more beautiful. Well done.

First of all I have to say, this thread is awesome. So many unbelieveably creative people out there!! :: You have all inspired me to give it a go.

So with that in mind, I have selected a bit of ambitious project.....I'd like to recreate one of the below. Which one do you like??

Any ideas on how to start it off....

Angelblue had just seen your post, how have you gone with your canvas art - I actually brought my canvas art from the place where your pics are from, I am really happy with them.

Hi there Ring09,

I have'nt started them yet. We've had some major issues with our roof after a recent storm. It took a bit of doing to get the problem sorted. But thankfully as of last week everything has been fixed and re-painted.

So once I've re-organised the house, I'll have a go at it and post some pics.

Have you posted pics of your canvas prints? I would love to see them ::smile::

Fabulous artwork Alinta .. the first one is very dark but great! I've got plenty of room for your crazy tree  I'm having a go at painting myself and soon realised it's not as easy as it looks!

Very good keza :: - you know to keep it simple - I find I get into trouble when I try and put too much into the picture ::hyst::

Thanks Mclaren, but I really learnt the hard way. I use acrylics as I'm hopeless with oils, much as I love them - I try to do the messy & haphazard style but it doesn't come naturally & I end up wrecking it. Below is one I did a long time ago - I hate it. I tried too hard & did all sorts of horrible things trying to fix it. I'd happily throw it away but d/h won't let me.

I'd be pretty happy if I could do that ... I tried to paint a garden and getting the colours right is so hard - in my humble opinion I think you'de done a great job of the light on the horse.

I use acrylics too - they're great for letting the paint dry so you can try again!!

Absolutely Mclaren. I paint over a most of my acrylics - I'd have a room full of them otherwise. Cartoons have always been my forte. Its great being able to paint something for a kid that they love, but a caricature is not really something I want to hang on my own wall. I'd just like to be able to pull together something slightly more sophisticated & adult. That's why I'm testing the waters with abstracts. Plus, our home is fairly modern & minimalist so complicated paintings wouldn't look right. And the beauty of abstract art is if you make a mistake, no-one can usually tell! :z:

Hi Everyone

I am very fortunate that my wife is artistically blessed and creates stunning artworks for our home. She has an incredible fascination with elephants and needless to say, we have literally thousands of different elephant related nick-nacks etc around our home. I think home made artwork really gives an individuals home a touch of elegance and personality and you just can't have enough of this in stressful times. Coming home and admiring your handiwork gives you a sense of achievement and makes that time when you walk through the door, a real meaning of "COMING HOME"

Thanks for the vote of encouragement ring09 ... it's not a great work of art but I really enjoyed doing it and then having DH say I could put it on the wall was amazing, he has been painfully honest about my skills (or lack of) .. I thought for sure he'd say bin it!  I learned a lot from doing the flower that you need to work in layers with acrylics .. let one layer dry and then add another layer/colour ... I'm keen to paint some more ....

Well done, Mclaren! It's gorgeous! I can't wait to see the rest of it, too!

I envy anyone who can paint, yours are fantastic alinta and keza. I don't think in a million years I'd be able to create anything to that calibre. I'll stick to cutting out my butterflies....I've sold 2 of the travelling ones recently, 1 went in a day!
