I go every day. DP and I are wanting to do a time lapse video of the house being built, so we go every afternoon around the same time (between 5.30pm and 7pm) and take a photo from the same point (a block corner across the road).... So far we have 5 photos of equal dimensions, focus, positioning....can't wait to do the video at the end.

That is very cool! We are doing something similar but just with photos (we have 4 spots we take from every visit). But I assume you only take the video when something has happened? Now that we are in full build mode I go past at least twice a day (and I even dream about it! Scary!).

It is VERY cool, there are quite a few time lapse videos of homes being built on YouTube and it made me want to do the same! We don't video at all, just the photos like you. Then at the end of the build, we put them together into VideoMaker and give, say, 1 second per photo. As long as they are all the same perception/dimensions, etc, then it will look like a stop-start-motion video of the house going up
We go every day and I take a photo whether something has changed or not. I want to have the non-action photos as well so when we watch the video, I can say "Wow, those *insert trade here* took their sweet time!"
Omg I dream about it too! I dreamt that I went to our block and they had built it wrong and then I pushed it and it all fell down and they got angry and wanted their money back *terrified face* I think building makes us crazy?

What's even funnier is that I TOTALLY get your dream! Oh, you are doing that with photos?! I will tell DH as that sounds very very cool.

Hehe, I woke up thinking "Oh no it fell down!" and then realised it was a dream and didn't happen. The relief was overwhelming...and embarrassing.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rf-NKGqRig4 This is what we're wanting to do. These time lapse ones were made with photos that were then 'strung together' to make a video

HI
During the construction of our first home, we visited the site at least ever second day making sure that what the builder was telling us had been completed had indeed been done as said. I think in this day and age, you just can't take the spoken word as a guarantee. Checking yourself is always the best option

In regards to the SS citing OH&S to keep you away, does any such policy actually apply to someone who is not an employee/contractor? If you're the owner you can enter at your own risk I would think, unless you're intefering with work. Does it apply to accessing your land completely or just entering the building envelope, etc.. ? For example, if I wanted to stand on the hill at the back of my property, well away from the building site, and take pictures with a telephoto lens, that should be ok?

We don't have a site yet, just a block, but we live to far away (>1 hr drive each way with a toddler) to get out there any more than weekly, and even that would be a stretch. I'd love to go check it out more often, but did I mention the toddler ? We will be getting independent inspections to the max, so hopefully not being out there all the time won't be a big issue.

OK, now that we are in full build mode I have to confess I drive past at least twice a day (it is 400m from our rental, and 200m from DS's school, so it is hard not to!). The tradies have been great with us coming on site, but we try to visit when they aren't there and have a good sticky beak around.

It's a construction site and unless you have a valid OH&S white card you are legally not allowed to be within the the construction site which means within the security fence. It wouldn't stop me though!!! I'm owner building so have to have one but hubby doesn't and he comes to site every weekend while I 'visit' 3 times a day most days.

At the moment I'm dropping by there on average about once a fortnight - right now it's just a vacant lot.

I had a bit of a laugh to myself thinking back to this thread when during the contract signing with Metricoin they suggested about once a fortnight max.
