Hi Michelle,
I have just visited my local store and viewed the Karndean range. I like the look of the Opus Weathered Elm or Opus Niveus but am worried about how they will hold up to a large inside dog and six year old child? Obviously there will be wear and tear but I want to know how they hold up to scratches or things being dropped etc. Is there anything you can say that will reassure me it is a good choice?
Edited to add - I also wanted to know how much of a difference there is in the different ranges. I can see from the brochure that some have a thicker surface layer and extended guarantee - does this mean I should be aiming for the Art Select / Da Vinci range for better wear and tear / less plastic looking over the Van Gogh and Opus? Or is there not a huge difference?
Your wear layer is really important on any type of flooring, obviously if the wear layer is thicker than that is a sturdier floor.
I like the new Opus range, its wear layer is 5mm compared to Da Vinci which is 7mm.
I have to say here, every floor will scratch if put under the right conditions. So even getting a thicker wear layer will not help your flooring if sharp objects are dragged across it. Even concrete will scratch!
The dearer the Karndean product the higher the grade is, so most of them like Da Vinci and up are commercial rated.
But again I say….this will depend what you do to it. Kids and dogs have been a real focal point on flooring lately I have notice with my customers.
If you like it, get it, but get extra tiles so the scratched ones can be replaced if they get too bad.
This is easily done, you just heat the flooring you want to remove with a blow dryer and the glue will soften so the tile can be lifted and replaced.

Opus has the .5mm wear layer compared to the Art Select with a .7mm wear layer.
In my opinion scratching or scratches would likely be the same with both products, the outright longevity would be better on the .7mm wear layer products.
Obtain some samples either thru your Carpet Court or other retailer or even directly from Karndean 1800 428 963, you should be able to grab 4-6 pieces & then do some wear & scratch testing to see what you think.
