Hi, is there a general rule of thumb for render and cladding colours? Our country house front facade has weatherboard cladding with some render. Rest of the house is rendered. Do I go lighter or darker on the cladding? How does either choice affect the overall appearance? The cladding frames the large front windows, window frames to be pearl white to tie in with lightish coloured roof since Colourbond roof will probably be one of the following- surfmist, evening haze or dune.
I welcome all of your ideas as we have only 2 weeks until pre-start! I'm in panic mode!!

Hi, here is a pic of the display home (render only). Developer requires 3 different building materials for facade hence weatherboard cladding will be framing windows of the queen anne bay. http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/289/parkview.jpg
Thinking of Wattyl retro avocado and stoneleigh (lighter) - colours to blend in with the bush environment.

I would go lighter to blend in more with the roof. But darker may also look ok with a dark garage. You have the posts also to act as a feature. Fascia and gutters play a part too so it's a tough call just using only that pic for reference.

I picked up a sample of Wattyl retro avocado and it seems too dark, Stoneleigh too grey. Unless I change the roof colour? I love autumn bushland but seems too light! Any other suggestions please for cladding and render. My hubbie loves the colour russet pear. It's deeper yellowish green. So hard to decide! http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/8452 ... tpearw.jpg

Our builder uses Wattyl paints exclusively, so Porters is out, unfortunately. Lovely colour! I want to use their limewash inside though... As it looks like there's golden tones in Russet pear & Autumn bushland perhaps the sandbank might pick it up too much? There's a lot of articles on this forum saying how dune CLB goes with almost everything so I'm wondering if Dune render would go with either Russet pear or Autumn bushland?

I've just managed to get my scanner working again. Here's the front elevation showing cladding around windows. . . We've added a portico on the RH side for muddy boots, coats and outside shoes; we've deleted the garage as we're going to have a big garage/shed/workshop down the back of the block.
Talked to Bunnings paint guy who said they could replicate any colour to Wattyl base but I've also been told that the colours done this way aren't exact. Also thinking that the builder might find an excuse to charge us more money if we don't use Wattyl colours.

Hi Michelle and friends, here are my final (?) selections. We have been to prestart but not locked in as we have no deposited plan available yet. . . so still can tweak a bit. The house faces north. Roof - Surfmist
Cladding - Wattyl wicker white - Hardiplank Primeline Heritage boards
Windows - Pearl white or Anotech Dk Grey?
Door- 920 size plank style painted Wattyl Quest - dark charcoal with soft plum undertones. Set on east side of house, not typical suburban entrance- the most often used will be mud porch on west leading from the freestanding garage/shed. Verandah poles and rafter tails - either Wattyl wicker white or leave natural colour?
I wanted the windows to stand out a bit, the colours are to anchor it into its bush surroundings, but I don't want it to blend so well that it has no street presence. . . also for the house to have a sort of modern cottage look. I wonder if I should go for colonial bars and if so, would white and not the grey suit better? [ img ] What do you think about the window colour- and to bar them or not to bar? that is the question! Thanks a heap in advance for all comments! and I apologise in advance for the stiff necks... the image was saved on rotation the right way up but just won't post that way!!

Oh! that's good, the image is now the right way up. Sorry I can't make it bigger.
Also just realised white pearl windows will make the front facade look unbalanced as it will blend with the white cladding and pop on the side windows which are against the render.
So I'm going for anodic dark grey so all the windows will "appear" evenly across the facade!
