Have a look at http://www.styleplantation.com.au/ We will be getting our bamboo from them - the nutmeg blend- which looks similar to the Australiana. They have been so helpful and professional. Only do bamboo, not a fllor plaace that has the one bamboo display as a sideline. showroom has been there for nine years and the original floors look perfect. You can walk on glued down and floating to feel the difference. They are in Botany Rd Rosebery but well worth the trip. Took my DH there and he was totally on board after five minutes talking to the designer and he is usually Mr 'let's talk it over for the next six months and then decide'.

Hi, new to forum, but not to building! Chose flooring for our new home today. Have been researching bamboo for a month or so, and ended up choosing a very similar product to mick's thru floorworld. It is by a company called homemirus. Anyone heard of them?! Floorworld assured me they have been installing tonnes of it, and it is great quality. If I could work out how to add a pic I would!! But, anyway, just posted it because it is available in Sydney, and elsewhere in NSW, for those asking. The salesmen called it 'nutmeg', and it was a blend of about 4 or 5 natural and carbonised strandwoven planks. About 1800 long, and 140 wide, 14mm deep. How do I upload pics lol??

Oh guys thank you! I do know style plantation (even follow them on facebook!) and have no idea why I didn't think of them - serious baby brain I think!! Build again it sounds as though you may be talking about the same thing as ktktkt - nutmeg is the way to go!

I can recommend their products; is a heavier/denser woven bamboo than several others we've looked at, and the pre-finish didn't emit any odours after. We had some laid 4-5 years ago; at the time it was called "Natural" (vs "Carbonised"; I think it's Savannah now), and it has lasted well in my home office, even now with builders through. Don't get the gloss though, as that shows scratches easily.
We'll be laying it through the house shortly; from memory, it's $77/m2 supply only.

Not sure what the company is called...

Nina Marie, you were asking about prices- we are getting about 250m2 in the 'nutmeg' and it is costing $60 per m including their best acoustic underlay, supply only of course. It will be laid (by my poor hubby!) all through the house we are building excluding wet areas. We could have gotten cheaper, with that quantity but we really liked the variation in the nutmeg.

Hi everyone,
Going out to buy bamboo flooring this weekend (about 90sqm of it, not sure on the colour yet, but it will most likely be something similar to Nutmeg bamboo from Styleplantation that paulw11 posted earlier in this thread) and have found some great info about it on this forum, so joined to say thanks to everyone and was hoping to pick your brains a bit more to ensure i got all the info i need to make sure i purchase the right stuff. We will be covering our living areas, kitchen and our hallway with it.
Correct me if I'm wrong but sound to me like there are really only a few thing that are a "must check" before buying:
1. Make sure it is strand woven/compressed. 2. Make sure it is grade A bamboo. 3. Make sure that it is 14mm thick. 4. How many coats of prefinished polyurethane (should be between 10-14 coats). 5. Make sure the warranty is a lengthy one, e.g. 20-30 years. 6. The length of each board should be 1850mm, rather than 950m, but this is a personal preference.
Is all this info correct? Have I missed anything or is there anything else that should be checked before purchasing?
All these questions are good as long as the place selling them are up front and honest about it. I mean it is not unheard of for some retailers to say all the right things in order to make a sale, but the information may not necessarily be true. Apologies if this is a negative way to look at it, but have had some bad experience in the past so I'm just trying to be as cautious as possible. Are there certain thing i should be looking for myself which might confirm what the retailer says is actually true?
We will also check a place called UB Trading Pty Ltd. They don't have a website, but they do have an eBay store and according to the info there, they are selling a top notch quality bamboo flooring: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Strandwoven- ... 43b0921341
Has anyone ever heard of either of these 2 or better has anyone ever bought from them? If so, is the bamboo they are selling good quality?
Any other advice, suggestion and/or recommendation would be highly appreciated.

eBay has some wonderful bargains from time to time, but buying flooring from there would be pot luck in our opinion.
The ONLY way to ensure you don't lose out is to buy a BRAND NAME product OR buy a floor from a BRAND NAME retailer. Then you have some degree of protection. A warranty is only as good as the the financial stability of those who provide it. The quality of a floor is only as good as the quality needs to be - in other words, brand name retailers have a much greater vested interest in only selling quality, becuase their brand name is at stake.
As has been said before here on the forum, others (without a name to protect) in the industry can take your money, close down, open up under new names and play all sorts of games.
If a price is too good to be true, then it probably is !
Be wary and considered and you will hopefully end up with a good floor.

Hey mate, thanks for that. Yeah i get everything you are saying. The UB Trading people i mentioned in my post have been in business for a while now and seem to have some good stuff if their ebay and facebook testimonials is anything to go by (their feedback on ebay is 100% from almost 100 transactions). I had a chat to them and they guarantee that it is Grade A, compressed bamboo and they have only 2 colours, Carbonised (coffee colour ) or Natural (blonde colour) and the cost is $33sqm supply only, which is extremely cheap and as you pointed out, if it sounds too good to be true... Either way, I'm obviously not buying until i see it, hence why i asked if apart from asking the above questions, is there a way of checking it to make sure they are truthful?

We r very very close to installing our strandwoven bamboo floor in our soon to be new build.....This must be the compressed type ur talking bout.....Ithink bamboo has come along way in recent years, especially with the colour range...We have purchased Australiana from Mosowood and we have also purchased matching decking....I think it will be THE feature of the house....
I think it is right to say you have to go for quality....like anything you get what you pay for......so if something seems too cheap...beware...
As for the laying of it ...we were convinced not to stick down bamboo, which we intially wanted to do...so DP being a chippy is going to help me lay the stuff.. wer got the uniclic type...
You think i didnt notice that it was three different colours.......I know other people on H1 with that flooring , so if you want to insult me and others on here go ahead.
Actually I like the 3 colours....gives it more character. Very beautiful floors!!

Well thats it decision made!! Its bamboo all the way. Was not totally sure what type of timber flooring to go for. Even considered laminate (for hardness), but having seen some of the pictures on this thread I am sold on bamboo. The colour texture and warmth is awesome. It just smashes tiled floors!

Yep they sure do. Went over yesterday and everything looks good, so good in fact that I'm ordering from them in the next couple of days. The floor is quite good and they know what they are talking about. The cost is $33sqm plus $2.20 for the underlay or even less depending on the quantity ordered. They don't have a showroom as such, but they have everything you need to see at home and they are quite happy for people to go over and check it out. The warehouse is near Campbelltown. They only sell 2 colours, carbonised (coffee colour) and natural bamboo colour. The only bad thing IMO is the delivery charges, $150 regardless of the quantity or the delivery location. Quite steep in my opinion, but luckily I've got that organised through a family friend so we will pick it up ourselves.
