Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Masterton Homes - The new thread 2281Oct 24, 2011 4:53 pm 40mm: not sure didn't get it. It doesn't make it more sturdy, only if you like the look. I thought it made the kitchen look too heavy. Remembered asking, about 3-4k. 900mm: rangehood upgrade $450 + ext ducting $600 soft close drawers, you can do this yourself afterwards. undermount sink: got this an an option, didn't pay anything for it. 900mm cooktop: 238 900mm oven: $780 You might be asking about the all in one, we didnt get this because I saw it had gaps between the bench and the cooktop. You know things are going to fall between there and it willbe hard to clean. extra height cupboards: not sure, thought they would make it higher automatically pot drawers: dunno, generally drawers more expensive than cupboards (runners etc), I'd estimate a few hundred. Conclusion: get what you can't do afterwards upgraded. Masteron will charge you pretty a penny. It still works out better for you to change it after handover and throw away what masterton installed. Or you could just sell the masterton stuff on ebay afterwards. Re: Masterton Homes - The new thread 2282Oct 24, 2011 6:55 pm $9000 seems excessive!! We got 40mm benchtops $2,500, soft close drawers for nothing, undermount sink $770, we are getting our own appliances so cant help there overhead cupboards -$500 Man i cant wait to get going we are waiting on plans now its such a long process hey!! What is everyone doing with flooring we are thinking of going with bamboo Re: Masterton Homes - The new thread 2283Oct 24, 2011 9:06 pm Pot drawers are $450 We went to Council today, hopefully its quick. Re: Masterton Homes - The new thread 2284Oct 25, 2011 12:59 pm Hi Buildingbee We are building the Villina and had our colours appointment 2 weeks ago. We only have the Mansion Package and had to pay the following to upgrade: 1. Canopy - stainless steel and glass canopy $585.00 plus around $550.00 to vent outside (the standard rangehood is a recirculating type). 2. Underbench sink – this was included in our version of Mansion Package (Oct 2010). However, if we wanted the draining board cut into the stone top this would have cost over $300. 3. Waterfall ends – we were quoted $1,727.00 for 20 mm waterfall ends. Didn’t go that option because we know the cost of supply is only $1,100.00. We’ll do it ourselves after handover (it just won’t have a 45 degree join). 4. 900 mm built in cook top and oven – we were quoted over $1,200.00 for this. Sorry, can’t help with the other items. We are building at Shell Cove and as we live an hour away we can only visit the block on the weekend. I spoke to my Site Supervisor on Friday and he said due to the rain down there over the last couple of weeks we are waiting for 3 other blocks to have the excavator go in to start preparation for the slab before it comes to ours. I think the weather is going to delay that even further this week so I am hoping for some more sun to speed along the process. Re: Masterton Homes - The new thread 2287Oct 27, 2011 4:40 pm Hi everyone I havent been in much, since our colours appointment we havent done much at all in terms of organising the house. I was starting to think the whole thing was a figment of my imagination But alas we have council approval today!!! 8 and a half weeks, I suppose thats not toooooo bad. Could have been worse. So now we are looking for a rental to move into so we can get the house demolished and get this thing started! The fun and games begin.... CathyP I hope you get some action from M next week. I'm watching with interest to see how long they take to start. Have you had lots of rain there? Welcome Shrinivasa. Good luck with everything. Whats everyone doing for flooring in the living areas? We are tossing up between tiles and bamboo, I want bamboo I think. Is anyone else getting bamboo? I prefer the look to timber and it is generally cheaper, more sustainable and more durable. Considered tile but we really didn't like the look and feel, cold and unwelcoming. Plus if you drop something on tile you risk breaking it and/or the tile. I went down to the block on the weekend and the excavator has been there and we have a gravel driveway. They are hoping to pour the concrete for the piers this week subject to the weather. Can anyone who's building has started please tell me how long it took Masterton to get the Construction certificate after your DA was approved? and once they got the CC, how long until they actually started building? Does anyone have any tips for the day? Anything we should think about in advance? Thanks! I have to say its ridiculous that you have to choose tiles and external colours beforehand. Tile Direct prices are about 30% above other stores as well. The Beresfiled store is hopeless, we have been there twice now and both times employees were able to help us with tile prices and ranges etc yet unable to do our actual selections as they claim they were too busy, yet we were the only ones in the store.
Novo did you chase up NCC for updates while your plans were with them or just leave them be. We have been in 2 weeks now and I'm wondering if I should hassle them. Re: Masterton Homes - The new thread 2297Nov 08, 2011 12:55 pm Hi Manhattan 37 builder Just a few things about your colours appointment - if you are going to Warwick Farm to do colours, be prepared to be rushed through everything. I was exhausted by the end of the day because the consultant barely gives you time to think about anything and you don’t realise just how many choices you have to make. We were getting very frustrated with her by the end of the day because we could see that she was in such a hurry to get us out of there. Paint colour for walls - be aware that you can’t have plain white anywhere except the bathrooms. You get ONE colour for the entire house except the bathrooms which can be painted white. If you want a certain colour other than what they offer you on the day, you have to pay extra. They will offer a very limited range of Taubmans colours (which I think are from very old paint charts). We chose a colour that was as close to white as we could get that didn’t have a yellow or pink base. Remember, all of your timber trim will be painted a gloss version of the colour you chose. It is absolutely ridiculous that you can’t have white. We regret now not asking them how much of a credit we could get if they just did the whole house in undercoat so we could do our own painting. Internal paint colour was the last thing to choose and we had already substantially blown our budget on extras by that point. Kitchen cupboards - Baron Adler is no longer available – very disappointing to find this out on the day of our colour selection as this was our chosen finish for the kitchen and bathrooms. Bathroom sinks - are not the ones on display in their houses (the large square top mounted ones). Standard Mansion package now is the all in one (conventional vanity style). Staircase – I think the standard staircase is very ordinary. I would be prepared to pay at least $500.00 extra to upgrade. On the issue of Construction Certificates – we are one month out from council approval and still don’t have CC or final tender. We are doing our colours appointment at Warwick Farm and have been told that we will be there until just after lunch. We have allocated the whole day to it just in case. We haven't done much research or thinking so far but now from what you guys have said, maybe we should start having a quick think on rough colour schemes, etc. I guess we are hoping that we don't end up upgrading everything on the day (like what we did with the bricks/tiles!) given we already have the Mansion Package. Will let you guys know how it goes! Thanks again. Also had the accent carpet appointment the other day and was surprised as to the cost I already had a price and thought when the girl rang that I would just go and see thinking that like the tiles they would be just to much price difference and I would do after hand And was surprised I always shop around for everything and found that the carpet price they gave me for a comparable carpet was actually cheaper. So I’m now thinking now of getting the carpet put on the tender. Does anyone know if they have the media room stuff at the colors appoint or when I do electrical ? Also have been reading a lot about the power thing I asked my sales guy and how it works they put the cable to the turrent/pole out the front of your house. If it is in your tender but have to have a accredited elect do the actual connection and install the meter as they have to take the serial numbers back to origin or whoever if you really shop around you could get it done for say 700 with the upgrade for the meter. Re: Masterton Homes - The new thread 2300Nov 09, 2011 6:18 pm Hi Modded Accent Electrical is done separately to Colours (electrical contacted us after the colours appointment). Our tender includes everything to connect power (ie. 3-phase cable pole to supply network, provide site establishment/national metering fee and 8 metres of 3-phase underground service cable from pole to meter box but says “Meter box to be wired to suit single phase”. It cost us $480 (at electrical appointment) to upgrade the meter box to 3-phase (needed for air con). You do however do your media/cabling at Colours. We upgraded second phone cable to Ethernet cable which allows us to use our second phone point as an internet connection. We put this in the master bedroom which will give us internet connection for the TV in this room. This saved us $110.00 for data cable to this room. You only get 1 data point - each extra cable is $125.00, upgrading to Ethernet cable cost us $15 so we saved $110. Extra TV cables will cost $80 (2 provided in Mansion package) You will see there are tips from others posted on 8 Nov to help you at colours.
