I have been stalking here for a while and was going to wait to start my own thread once I decided on my builder, but hey I'm bored, so today is the day....

My story so far.
Family of four, 2 kids 18 and 16, we have been happily living in the Hills district for the last 12 years on a lovely 1400sqm block backing onto a park down one side and bush at the back. Perfect family home in a perfect spot. So why move??
Well my princess daughter has decided she cant possibly share a bathroom with a smelly, toothpaste spitting, dirty big brother, so an ensuite was required. We looked at extending where we are but we couldnt get bricks and I didnt want to render, so we started looking at rebuilding. So we put a deposit on a block of land in the area and are waiting for it to register. We have all the services and roads in, so just waiting on paperwork ::hyst::

So hear is our 700m2 block of dirt
[img]http://i1237.photobucket.com/albums/ff468/gogo65/IMG_0342.jpg[/

We have spoken to a builder this week and they are also doing some drawings based on a few other plans I like, we meet with them again next week, so I am looking forward to what they come up with.

Hopefully not to long and boring :::

Edit door handle discussion for sunshine:page 120  thanks SC

Hi Gogo,

Wow, you've done well on your plans :: Golf course, hmmm...could we possibly be in the same estate? Do you mind letting me in where your block is? You can pm me.

Good luck!

Cheers.

   Good one, Gogo.

Anyway, nothing to stop us from sharing our building experiences still!

I have chosen to build with H as they have the perfect design that allows me to enjoy the full benefits of parklands at my back and side. That's the easy part; the tough part is my initial budget has already blown over ( and this is before electricals appt, upgrades, drive way, etc) Looks like I have signed my life away to the banks! ::cry::

Nice to hear from you, hope we can keep chatting.

Cheers.

The house plans are awesome and separate bathrooms for each room, great idea.

Thanks Cooped. Bed 3 and 4 will share, but bed 4 is just the spare room, we are still deciding about adding ensuite access to Bed 3 for our son, mind you he doesn't want it cause I said he would have to clean it

Oh thankyou, I loooove my ensuite.
4 metre walk through shower, will have a full glass panel between bath and shower.
Just deciding between a freestanding bath or a normal one. :th:

Free-standing.. hands down ;-) As it is the centrepiece of the room it needs to make a statement, not just propped up against that magnificent glass wall!

Quite aptly phrased, Gogo! :z: :z: :z:

I am very excited by the idea of my new home laced with rather daunting thoughts too.On top of this, I will be seeing this through all by myself as DH works some 4000 miles away and this leaves me to arm wrestle with the builders ::cool::

Love your plans, so much space for EVERYTHING! I've got a smallish block which doesn't leave me with much options/space for things I would love to have (like a free standing spa bath in the ensuite). Also, mindful of add ons as price will just keep spiralling up.

Looking to sharing this roller coaster journey on your thread!

Ahhh.... got that figured out... the Wine goes in the wine fridge you have installed in the Vanity cabinets (in the centre between the two basins)... and to solve the cleaning behind the tub - just try not to splash as you get out of the tub to grab the next bottle!!! ::wink::

Mee2,
I have a persoanl trainer and I go to boot camp, so I will be able to help you arm wrestle the builder
I cant imagine doing this with DH so far away what a challenge!
It certainly is exciting but so very daunting and just knowing from the beginning that it isnt going to be a smooth ride is so damn scary.
Look forward to sharing the rollercoaster

Thanks for the kind offer of your personal trainer  Wow, boot camp, too ::

I had one prior experience building my house (in bonny Malaysia) some ten years ago; built up size was about 90sqs  and I had to deal with one main contractor and 11 sub cons. Wore a hard hat for 2 years on site while keeping the tradies on their toes. Looking back, those were absolutely the craziest two years of my life!

My present needs are different now; down sizing as both mine and DH's old folks have thus left us for a better place. Also, with 3 sons, you never know who will or won't stay with us so I am building for some peace and quiet...not forgetting working within a rather tight budget. Back to reality check.

Anyway, I am definitely going single storey too in preparation for the aches and pains some 20 years (hopefully!) down the line

Have a good Easter!

Mee2

90sq ::surprise::
I suppose in Malaysia, you had a little help cleaning

I know its hard working out what our needs are going to be in 10-20 years down the track, I know my kids wont be moving out soon ::hyst:: so may as well have enough space so they dont annoy me too much ::wornout::

Bingo ::wink:: Plenty of help then!

I guess my boys are here to stay for some time more as we are a pretty close knit family unit; but you never know where/when work takes them away.

I must now sieve through the house design and make sure I don't make any boo-boos along the way. Since following this blog, I have learnt so much in such a short time; eternally thankful for all who have been ever thoughtful of new builders like ourselves. I will definitely post my thoughts on dos and don'ts as the house plans are better fine tuned.

When my son returns from Msia from his school break, I will recruit his help to post some of my house plans for you to have a browse (Apologies as I'm a newbie where cyberspace stuff are concerned, a computer dinosaur  )

Go for your free standing bath/spa ::cool:: ; you won't regret this!
